Pet Ranch is a crime

I was on the east side of the Springs so I thought I would stop in to Pet Ranch. I had been there before and remembered it being bad. I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think it could have gotten worse, stupid me. They didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have much of a selection (wonder why) anymore. Just a few clowns hanging in there. I wanted to buy the clowns and put them in Fountain Creek, I think they would survive longer that way. They might have given up on the salt side, I kinda remember the whole back wall being salt, now itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s just a third salt and most were empty. I wish there were laws to shut that type of store down. I felt embarrassed to be in the store and to have any part of a hobby that has to do with that store. Sorry, I had to vent a little, I feel a little better now.

Yeah, Pet ranch is just on the south end of the Safeway shopping center there at Carefree.... I stopped going there after seeing that their fish are even in a sadder state than the ones at Petco.
:(

I had the same concern as the both of you. I asked Bud (owner) what was going on. He told me that he cant get the temp blow 85 and that is why he has those three tanks set up for salt water and the rest of them looking like crap. The chiller has been ordered for 5 months now and has not been shipped yet. Not that is an excuse for the shape of the tanks that he is currently useing. Though he is better than Tropical aquatics on wood ave!

I felt sorry for the bicolor blenny so I bought him. He is doing much better in my tank.

Or what about fishy business??? What's up with that joint? His place is real funky. I don't know how some of these folks stay in business.

I went in there at 2 in the afternoon. He didn't want to turn on the lights for the fish because his utillity bill was to high. Those poor poor fish sitting in the dark!

Yeah, last time I was in fishy business all he really had in his tanks was hair algae, so you're not missing out on anything there....

Yeah, I think the guy at Fishy Business should probably retire. He started the store because his son loved fish and he had cancer. Once his son died, I think he lost his heart and desire.

Yeah, Pet Ranch is a dump. It has been for awhile. Every time I go in there, water is on the floor, and the it looks like they stocked the shelves by backing up a dump truck to the door and tipping the bucket! They have decent prices on some dry goods, but the livestock is horrid, and I wouldn't trust them. I feel sorry for what is alive.

If you go to fishy business, you have to be selective, If you get there right after shipments, he gets some nice stuff in. Of course I havent been there for a few months now..
The old guy is actually a real nice guy. I just am not real crazy about his store though. If you happen to go, check out the HUGE mantis he has.

Last time I was there, it was in the row of tanks just west of all the saltwater stuff, bottom row.

That's not a mantis, it's what they call a Spainish or Slipper Lobster. I've seen them on night dives in the Carribean.

Sorry man...They look alot like a big mantis, but they are actually clawless Lobsters. Not very good eating...
