Petco Maroon Clown

Saw this at Petco thinking about getting it. I heard these are ORA clowns does anyone know if that is true. They are tank raised and this one has the extra spot.

Then that means the are actually GSM because that is all ORA raise. Cool think I may go snag a pair, hopefully the one with the unique spots is still there.

It is always wise to quarantine, but I've found Petco's tank-bred clowns to be fine. I know it's Petco, so I don't think much of the store, but ORA clowns are about as bullet proof as you can get frankly--even Petco can keep them alive.

I agree with garygb, I have purchased both of my B&W pairs from them and also paired some female ocellaris with fish from PetCo.

I support them because they're a good source for ORA fish. Granted dry goods still nobody complains when they do $1/gallon on AGA aquariums. Over the years i've bought springeri's, fridmani's, and a flavivertex (which had a good amount of blue), Pseudochromis. as well as a ora A. polymnus.

Well according to ORA's website they only raise GSM but say that the stripes are white as juvi's and will get yellow later I will find out in a few months. They are very healthy looking and my first O. clown I got from Petco is still swimming I just pared her up about 6 weeks ago.

I have always had very good luck with Petco fish. The maroon I got there a year and a half ago is now a gold stripe maroon.

I just got my Clown from Petco last week, and I can tell you its 100% better then the pair I got from my LFS, the 2 I got first passed away with 10 days, I can tell they were doing bad teh day I put them in, compared to the one I got from petco, it ate right away when I added him to the tank. I'm still new to clowns though, are all Petco clowns from ORA? what about there Anemones, are they any good? and can someone tell me what GSM means? thanks

GSM is short for gold stripped maroon clown. It is a color variant from Sumatra (I think) that has yellow where the white strip is on most maroons.

I goy my maroon at Petco to. it's my favorite fish behind my fumanchu lionfish. and 15.99 vrs the 35.00 dollars at the local LFS was to good a bargin to pass up. But i would be very carful of fish from there. the one that i go to has very knolegable staff. this is not always the case. good luck.

I picked up the one with the spot and a misbar one as well. This store actually has a nice saltwater section. The anemones actually looked good to. Nice color not bleached out that my LFS sometimes have. Plus like you said garygb the price is half of a LFS for what is a ORA fish.

They are staying together like they are paired already. We will see. I will try to get some pics tonight they are really cool looking.
