Pete's 210 build

Pete, have you considered painting it the same color as your walls to blend in with the wall?

I hadn't, but that is another good idea.

Wicked....I like the canopies canopy.

Im thinking about implementing the acrylic risers in my new system. I would just use a couple of "poles/risers" around my CL holes through the bottom to raise up the rocks a bit. I was going to do this with PVC racks, but man they're a PITA to build the right size and even more so to hide.

So how far is the sump?

I'm pickup the black acrylic this week from TAP so that I can build the sump this weekend. I've got all the parts rough cut, and the front, back and bottom pieces finish cut. I just need the black acrylic, so I can laminate it to the piece that will be the refugium divider (to keep the light out of my mechanical sections). Then I can fishe cutting pieces and start glueing.

I would think the manufacturer's website should like resellers. This unit was bought through Woodworker's Hardware, a local company that I beleive is a chain or franchise.

The router table is another table saw, a Jet. There might be an option on the SawStop for a router table, but my father's does not have it.

It is not a cheap saw.

Sorry guys for the lack of updates. I got some more pirate booty last night for the tank.

These are the NEW Aquactinic standoffs and 36" T5 reflectors. They are only 2" wide (instead of 2.5" like the IceCap units). According to GrimReefer, they are slightly more efficient than the IceCap SLRs as well. I'll be taking measurements of the IceCap and Acquactinics reflectors with the Apogee PAR meter as soon as it comes in.

Wow that's a lot of endcaps...
Re: the Sawstop... the Cabinet version is around 3k... the 10" contractor saw starts at $700 ish

July 19, 2008 - For another hour

I spent some time in the shop tonight working on the sump pieces, and am planning to start assembling in a few minutes.

Smooth routed edges of a bunch of parts.

I thought I would use a dovetail jig to make my refugium baffle, but it really wasn't going to work so well, so I made my own jig.

Routing out the overflow grates.

Still in the jig.

Back at home on the floor.

Thanks Brian. Back when you were running the Solar Flare, what was your bulb configuration? or the config you liked best?

July 20, 2008 - Going to bed now

Somehow I'm only able to build sumps after midnight. Anyway, I'm off to bed. Here is what I got accomplished in the wee hours.

IMG_3280.jpg

Laid out the back pane.

IMG_3281.jpg

Test fitting the panels.

IMG_3282.jpg

More.

IMG_3283.jpg

Some more.

IMG_3284.jpg

One more.

IMG_3285.jpg

Last one, seriously. I wanted to test everything out, before taking it all back down and drawing some lines to keep everything square while I work the panels with the solvent. Lesson learned from the last sump.

I decided not to glue in all three pieces of the bubble baffle right away. I'm going to wait for the morning to get the other two pieces in. Another lesson learned from the first sump. I'm not super awesome at this yet, so I'll take my time.

IMG_3286.jpg

I decided to try a rough jig to keep everything square. Next time, I need to have a few more clamps so that I can clamp the back side too. I think I might be a 1/16" off square on one corner. Probably better than a lot of tank makers, but I was shooting for perfect... Oh well. ;)

Showing off the IceCap 660s, count'em 1..2..3..4..

IMG_3288.jpg

I think this is what the experts call a fillet.

IMG_3289.jpg

Not so much here, but still these seams look better than the last sump. I think I see 2 air bubbles in all four seams, and they are pretty small.
