Glad to see its coming together Pete :)

I love the blue in that superman monti!

Jim

Thanks, that was a nice piece that I got from Xia when he was getting rid of all his SPS. It has kept its color very nicely!

Pete
I thought you going mainly SPS?

I see a lot of softies in there!

SPS dominant, but not exclusive. I can't get rid of my ricordia. There's a fair bit of leftover LPS int there that I haven't decided on, and some nicer softies, but I kept the GSP, and mushrooms out. :D

This is a family tank, and the wife likes certain things.

Pete, let us know what you think of the ExpoDisc. I've been contemplating one ever since 'that local reefer' got one. I just don't quite understand how it works. I'm sure if I saw it used in person I'd be ready to order one myself. Where'd you get yours?

Well it sure makes it easy to set the WB. For some shots it has been spot on, others, I still have to increase/decrease the exposure, but the WB is still on. You just hold it in front of the lens and take the WB shot. That's it.

Get the 77mm version (the Pro size) so that no matter which lens you use, it will fit over the front. Since you only take a quick shot and put it away, holding against the filter works just fine. I got mine from my local Ritz Camera for the same price as online.

Now, if only what I saw through the lens was the same as the pictures I take. Everything comes out - out of focus, but looks good through the viewfinder. Maybe I need glasses.

I know I need glasses. Emma took mine and hid them. I found them for two days and then they were gone again :(

Whoever this "local reefer" is, he sounds like a person that is very difficult to work with, especially because he wants certain ideals for his local club :lol2:

For sure... what a difficult guy! Thanks for the suggestion on the ExpoDisc. I'd been eying one, but had been misreading how to use it, so I thought I was going to have to stick the camera in the tank and shoot back at the light source that was shining onto the tank. Considering that the lights on the tank could hail a starship, there's no need. Finding it locally for the same price as online is always nice, and ever better at my local shop on the way home from work!

I snapped a super ton of pictures last night, and was really stoked to check them all out. Every single one was out of focus! Dang it. Well, I've still got a final trick up my sleeve... I'll post it this weekend.

Thanks again Mark. I enjoyed chatting yesterday. Please give me a ring, or drop me a PM with any thoughts you have as we go forward. I'm not sure if you're a sushi guy, but if you're ever free, my treat if I can pick your brain!

haha, I know what you mean. Are you using a tripod or holding the camera lens firmly against the glass? I need to get a remote shutter release, as I think this will help my pictures a bit.

Tripod of course... A remote shutter release is a definite +

I'm not even close to the camera eqpt you guys are working with, but I found if I use the tripod, timer for shutter, and back the camera up a little, I tend to get better focus.

Even so, pic never looks like what I see when I look in the tank.

Here's a hint at what I've got going on...

Oh, and the main seal on my gold dart, powering my skimmer has a small leak. Emailing Reeflo to get a replacement.

This is probalbly a dumb question , but are you shooting directly through the glass not at an angle of any kind?

I used to have focus issues to the I learned I was being dumb and shooting at angles. Every since I stopped doing that it has been much easier to focus. But I am sure you probably knew this already.

I will have to look into the filter for the WB as my colors are always way off :( .

Are you going to be around this weekend?
I want to come by and see your tank and maybe bring you a present for the tank;)

No question is dumb, unless you ask it a second time expecting a different answer! :D

Yes, I only shoot straight through the glass, no angles, as I found that I got strange distortion.

I think I'm just going blind.

Come by and check it out. I'm going to be around Sunday before the BBQ. My wife is kicking me out Saturday, as she has friends coming over.

Sounds Good!!!.
Do you mind if I bring my camera stuff and shoot your tank?
I need all the practice I can get !!As I have found a new expensive hobby LOL. But at least I have a brother in law that is a professional photographer to get info from. Although I have not asked him for help yet.

Are you the delay mode to shoot? I get terrible shots if I don't let it count down, beep and then shoot on its own. You'd think 1/30th of a second would be fast enough to not get motion blur from the button press, but it appears to not be. I don't remember shooting film faster than that and I used to get crisp film shots.
