Meola, Good question about the calcium reactor! I just this week gave up on the dang thing. I could not get it to run right, it leaked, and then the bubble counter cracked. I am at this time converting it into a Kalkreactor to place in line on my auto-topoff RO/DI system. Seems to me that Kalk is just the way to go and I think I can easily convert this thing. Will post a photo when it is up and running.

Disaster of 2008 has occurred. I just got home from vacation this last weekend to discover the house air conditioning had failed, probably for about two days. It was the hottest day of the year in town, 112 outside, 90 in the house. My 270 which is the den was about 100 the 135 was 90. All corals in the 270 are toast except the green polyps and a few mushroom leathers. My huge purple grape montiporas were my worst loss, but they all hurt. Surprisingly most of the larger fish survived. The anthias were toast as expected, but my Vlamingi and Atlantic Blue Tangs are fine and the Chrysursus Angel. The Sargassum Trigger is gone as well as my pair of Mandarin Gobies. last year it was an out break of Marine Velvet, now this! Rather discouraging. If I had just created a temperature sensitive shut off for the hood the metal halides would not have cooked everything.

My skimmer has been going hog wild for five days, even with removal dead stuff and water changes. I skim wet and it has removed 4 gallons of nasty dead crud. I even tried to remove a Sea Hair that looked dead, it proved me wrong and gushed a purple black ink into the system. That made the skimmate violet for a while.
