couple more shots

they start to close up when I put a light on them as you can see in this series of pictures

Those are pretty cool shots!

I took the valve of my reactor too. I didn't see it serving a purpose the way mine is set up.

thanks Hop - I wish I had your camera and skills to take better pictures of these

there were also a batch of clown fish fry in the overflows last night, unfortunately I'm not set up to do much for them. maybe one day I'll be able to save some of their brothers & sisters

here are a couple more from inside my overflows late last night (not the best, no flash and taken through dirty glass)

a duster and a purple sponge

those clear anemones are orange ball anemones, and no ca reactor on the tank. i am right, right? :D

one of these days if i have a use for a solenoid valve ill hit you up for the company info. right now i dont really have a use for any. as a matter of fact i just added the last corals to my tank today. that means NO more work on tank stuff for a while. my wifes being induced on the 19th and im going to be a daddy again ;). she says NO MORE REEF CENTRAL! but thats only for the first year i think? then she says i can set up the 75g inwall :)

psteeleb , did you have calcium reactor or just kalk reactor ?

rignt now just the Kalc reactor. Until this week I was just doing the DIY 2 part. My demands for Ca and Alk have gone up and with me being gone a lot with work it was getting risky not to automate things. I considered options both near term and long term and decided to mover my main dosing to a Kalc reactor and supplement as needed with 2 part. Eventually I plan on getting a CA reactor to work in conjunction with Kalc.

I also considered the impurities in Dow flake as a long term build up concern. And I want to stabilize Ph swings as much as possible.

Ph swing pre Kalc = 7.98 -> 8.18 ~2.0 a day

Target Ph swing running Kalk at night = 8.15 -> 8.22, about 1/3 of what it was.

As of now I plan on dosing a gallon every 4 hours at midnight 4am and 8am (3 gallons total). 3 gallons is about the limit from an evaporation stand point. I could force more evaporation and use more Kalc but for now my demand is calculating at 3 gallons a day. As demand increases I'll supplement with 2 part until I add a Ca reactor.

The reason I went for a Kalc reactor is I wanted to go after teh low end of my Ph swing and bring it up.

When I add in a Ca reactor I may go after the upper end of the Ph swing to bring it down. An easy way to do this is to have a secondary solenoid shut off CO2 to the Ca reactor at night or to limit it to lower Ph levels in the tank. It may take some additional adjusting but in the long run I think it will give me a more stable environment for corals.

those are freaky! what are they? and do you want them? :)
As Chris indicates the common name is Orange Ball anemones, but they are in the coralmorphia family with mushrooms and ricordia.

They are considered beneficial filter feeders. I have a bunch in my main tank also, but you only see them at night, as they pull in during the day. I wa sable to get a decent picture of these by holding a flashlight behind them making them almost glow.

The feather dusters are a tube worm, also considered a beneficial filter feeder.

well; correct, correct, just let me know, congrats, to bad, and congrats

DON'T LEAVE US, just don't buy stuff :rolleye1:

inspired by Hop's great photos, Pete decides to make the most of his camera

Marc's acropora sp (unknown), is definitely growing in size and number of polyps
marcsunk-1-1.jpg

The crayola is coloring up nicely:)
marcscrayola.jpg

this Mille I got from MakoJ is doing okay, it's finally getting some new tip growth - colors okay but no baby blue tips yet
GMmille.jpg

the GH aqua delight I broke a few weeks back has grown over, still not quite the colors I'd like to see, but it's time I replace my bulbs so that may have something to do with it
GHaquadelight-1.jpg

my blue purple prostrata (or was that purple / blue), anyway, I thought I lost this one to AEFW's
bluepurpprostrata.jpg

another frag form MakoJ - the pink Jade, not so pink yet, again, may be a lighting issue.

behind the tang - acropora sp (maybe nana) but AKA; Acropora AEFW factory

another acropora sp (better know as the a. blob)

 Your a funny man, but thanks for the comments:)

Those shots are great! I really like the "blob"... Can't wait to see that one in a year!

oops - I just noticed I posted the aqua delight in place of the pink jade - I wish you could edit posts past an hour.

here is the Pink Jade

I'm totally mystified by this lil guy. I don't know how he survives but he is still hanging in there. He swims with the other chromis and eats but is not as aggressively as the others. The other fish aren't picking on him, so maybe he has an outside chance of making it. I tried to catch him but he can still dart around pretty quick even though he appears to have lost some control of his pectoral fins.

not the best pictures as only attinics were on and a bright sun coming in from the back but you can still see the gaping wound.

he eats but I would have thought that's where his stomach and digestive system were.

:eek1: That little guy is incredible! What happened to him? That little spot is where there heart and liver is. Amazing, ha.

maybe the chromis is a ZOMBIE!

thats amazing that it could have such a significant wound, yet still go about its regular buisness. thats the strength of nature at its best!

my wife insists that with a new born, there wont be time for RC. i dont recall losing a huge amount of time during the day with our first. i do remember losing a little sleep though ;) ... we'll have to see how the time situation turns out. although she's pretty passionate about me staying OFF RC. and she normally gets what she wants :D

Isn't it strange? Ich can kill a fish, high toxins can kill a fish, metals can kill a fish but no heart and liver, the fish doesn't care!

Well the little guy made it through another day. makes me wonder how many he has left. :(

This Monte frag I got from Marc was doing nicely but it must have broken off the mount and now is nowhere to b found. I dug through the rubble pile in the bottom of the tank below where I had it mounted but did not find it.

my pencil urchin was out in the open today. it usually hands out under rocks chewing away at coraline leaving a nice clean path in its wake. It's pretty amazing how they can get into the smallest nooks and crannies.

The "lil chromis that could" made it through another night. He ate well this morning and did not appear as shy as before. :)
