Yeah, I read it in the paper, but didn't know what to say since she didn't get the crown. Congratulations? ;)

Marc, by the way, Kristen made top five at Miss Texas.

Nice!

I have two daughters myself. I hope you'll lend me your surplus shotgun shells when the time comes for me to have a "conversation" with a young gentleman.

I remember exactly how I was when I was a young man, the thought terrifies me.

Here is a video of my tank when it starts up after standby mode

With the flow accelerators installed it drains a little more water and when it starts up the flow accelerators create vortexes that suck in air...... And I didn't even have to pay extra for it
:D

It's beautiful Pete, lots of flow in there.

You can even hear your bird singing in the background. :D

haha, Sonny (the bird) loves to talk.

Jay - did you pick up anything at the fragswap?

A few interesting things, hopefully nothing too difficult to take care of. I finally have the hammer coral frag I wanted.

I had a GFO reactor with the flow set to high, it spit some of the ultra-fine-fits-through-the-sponge media into my refugium. It looks like I'll be vacuuming that out tonight. Thank heavens it didn't make it into my display.

some sps updates

some sps updates

I like the way my mini colony of Chips is looking so I tried to get a couple top downs of it. The pictures just didn't come out very well as the coral is tucked away in the corner and I kept getting some odd reflections in the photobox.

here is the best top down I got - I want to move this colony to someplace where it can be seen. So maybe later this week I'll get some better pictures. It's getting some nice deep blue and green in it.

the chips is on the left and that's a green slimer on the right

here are a couple pictures of the small Chips colony from the side of the tank (dirty glass and all)

sps update

my blue green table (acropora sp) is making a great recovery. I lost probably half of this coral in my QT attempt

blugrntable-3.jpg

not a clue what this is, I think it's from a small frag I got a long time ago and just put on my frag rack. It grew, but was always brown, so I never gave it the time of day. Now that it's in some decent light, it seems to be getting some color. It may be a polcilllipora but not much PE compared to others I have.

and here is what was a small Blue Tort frag that's growing out nicely

I can't wait to start some sps corals like this--as soon as I get my skimmer problems sorted out
Great specimens

Pete, that tort is gorgeous. The pink coral is a pocillopora, and probably pink with a little green to its polyps. You may have a fish nipping at it if it stays closed up.

I just took some top down pictures and was dealing with some reflections from my VHOs as well. I took some rigid carboard and cut a hole for the lens to pass through, and let the cardboard be a barrier on the top of the box. That let me get some pretty good shots.

thanks guys

Marc - I don't think I have any nippers - it may still be getting acclimated to the light

here are some more pictures from today - that's it for today as we are off to see the Dark Knight

another pocillopora (pumps are on so lots of movement)

my main chips colony (the other is not a frag from this)

I should add - that the larger chips had almost no PE for a while. I think when I tried to drill some holes in the rock it's mounted to the vibration must have done some damage. Up to that time this coral had great PE, then hardly any, and it's just now coming back.

psteeleb, I'm :eek2: at the update pics on page 23. That one photo of the green striped mushroom is stunning.

Chrismumm... *wipes eyes* ...that aptasia video had me laughing till my stomach hurt.

thanks :) and that video Chris added had me falling out of my seat.

I see you're in Albuquerque NM. I visited my grandparents there often, including spending two summers there. It's funny, just yesterday my daughter was telling me she would love to go back and visit, apparently the area must have really left an impression on her.

Oh yes indeed! Your daughter must feel the good vibes here.
Have your grandparents lived here long?

they moved there around 1969. my grandfather passed away in the mid 80s and my grandmother passed away in the late 90's. We haven't been there since so I'm sure there have been a lot of changes. They lived around Wyoming and Indian School Rd. When I stayed with them during the summer of 73 (and 74) there was not much north or east of where they lived. When I brought my kids there in the 80's and 90s it had changed a ton. We loved the Luminaries during Christmas, the balloon fiesta and old town.

Pete, I'm going with my son to see Dark Knight on Tuesday at the Dallas IMAX. I hear there are some extra scenes in that one, plus the experience should be incredible.
