psteeleb- when do you use revive? Do most of the coral respond positivly? Thanks!

I started doing routine dips after my AEFW bout as a follow up. At first I was trying to hit all the acros about twice a month but now they may get a dip once every 3 months. They always (with exception to last night) appear to perk up. I don't over dose, just use the recommended amount and slosh them around and or blast them with a turkey baister to clean the nooks and crannies. I believe this helps to deslime and clean them of dead or decaying matter so they can grow back a fresh healthy protective slime coat. Nature certainly pounds these corals way more then what I can hit them with inside the tank, so the process just helps rejuvenate the natural cleaning & resliming actions in my opinion

doing a late night check on the Red Planet (it looks just fine given what it has going through) I'm finding lots of these. I think they are chitons

I also found two whelks that will soon be fertilizer. One I knew of as it was banished to my over flow a while back and decided to come up to the top. With the second one that now accounts for the 8 suspects that I bought as a different snail. I'm not positive about that, so I'll still be on the watch for them.

I also saw a decent sized bristle worm in the vicinity of where the Red Planet was. Hmmm :hmm2:

I have milli that is not doing great. It has not grown at all, since I got it. Do you think a revive dip would help? All the other coral in the tank are doing good! Thanks for the help!

the prostrata!?!? no, thats the wrong one, your supposed to accidentally break the green cap! :D

i LOVE that gorg man, that thing is sweet!

I would not have any issues giving it a dip, who knows maybe you will find a predator on it. but even if you don't I have yet to see any ill effects caused from the dipping as prescribed

use some fresh tank water so you don't get a ph or temperature shock

The Kole tang looks completely healed - it's just amazing how fast they can heal from their battle scars. The yellow is coming out to eat but is still very timid. I also noticed a barb make on my Regal so the tangs are still working on pecking order. But 99% of the time they just all cruse around together, maybe it's a spring thing :)

The prostrata I busted looked very happy tonight :)

I'll have to get a new top down of the prostrata, as it's starting to get the blue back that it lost a long time ago.

here are a couple critters from my 29g

and the blob just has to get in a picture every few days

we had a local club (DFWMAS) tank tour yesterday, I was impressed with tall the tanks :)

We also went by a couple LFS's and at the end had some BBQ, it was a long but eventful day.

Marc was on the agenda but I dropped him form it early in the week when he went into the hospital. Regardless a couple of us dropped in (after I called), his tank looked great and a few of the corals had some very nice new growth since my last visit.

I also picked up some cryptonite candy cane and a Niger trigger

The Niger was in a mixed reef tank for several months with no issues. When I spotted him in the tank, I asked if it was for sale, the local store owner, Frank, indicated that normally it was not as it was a display tank and the trigger would be near impossible to catch. But Frank said he would give it a try but if he missed on the first try there would not be any sense in a second attempt.

He got it, I wish I had a video of the event, definitely the fastest net in the west. :D

what happened to marc? you say he is in the hospital? is he ok???

thats a pretty fish, how big is it?

Long story made short - Marc was having stomach issues and had to have his gal bladder removed. He checked himself into the hospital 3:00am Monday and after some test he thought they were going to do surgery that day, but after several postponements and some other tests they decided to wait due to an enflamed Pancreas (pancreatitis). He had the surgery Wed and went home Thus. Friday he wasn't feeling real well, my guess is maybe a side affect from the pain pills or after affect of the anesthesia.

The trigger is about 4" (body only) and about 5 1/2 with tail. He is just a little smaller the the powder blue tang, who is not happy with him but getting use to it.

At first he was hanging around the clownfish, who had eggs and were not happy at all. The female bit the trigger a couple times and he lost a small piece of his lyre tail.

He has some very noticeable fangs so my wife named him "Twilight"

a few odds and ends

a few odds and ends

the Turaki, after almost a year of doing nothing has started to show some nice growth

turaki228.jpg

the Acropora Prostrata (millepora), has come back nicely but hasn't gotten the color back that it use to have. It is a few inches deeper in the tank then it use to be so it may be a matter of time or it may just want to be up higher
prostrata228.jpg

my sunset monte frag has completely encrusted the frag plug it is mounted on. It's time to find a nice spot to let it start encrusting a rock. I hope top find a nice spot close to the front of the tank where it can be seen easily :)
sunset228.jpg

this unknown acropora I got from Ryan (SERVO) continues to do well. Pictures don't do it justice. It has a very nice yellow base with a light emerald green florescent hue to it.

I sold several frags off my microcladus to help offset the cost of a CA reactor (and believe me I'm looking forward to getting it). You can also get a sense of how large Marc's Mille has gotten, it's about the size of my open hand
microcladus228.jpg

a little closer look at Marcs Mille
marcmille228.jpg

and the Mako Mille, this one is growing in a more compact form. The branches immediately turn vertical (tips up) then grow in a next row and repeat. Where the Marc mille appears to want to cover as much real estate as possible as fast as possible - points growing out then up. The difference could be a specific growth habit that was passed down from the parent colony or it could be due to the placement of the two frags. The Marc Mille does have the microcladus shading part of it, so I'm speculating this may trigger a different growth response.

and some more growth patterns

this acropora sp "the blob" encrusts first then grows rows of polyps as you can see in the lower left shaded section. Once these rows are set the growth patterns appear to become more random. I've seen this growth pattern repeat itself several times with this coral (encrust ---> lay rows of polyps ---> random but growth optimized to the use of flow and light specific to the area)
blob228.jpg

It seems like I got this acan just a couple weeks ago. At the time of of purchase it had 3 heads, now it has 10+. The other 2 acans I got are also growing new polyps but not as fast. Anyone know if I'm suppose to mount these on larger rocks or will they grow their own base?
acan228.jpg

Some interesting things going on with some purple plate montiporas. I love the way they will eventually scroll :)

this A. austera I got from Servo looks like it's taking on a layered table look. This sps (all form the same parent) has taken on 3 very different growth patterns in 3 tanks (SERVO's, Marcs and mine) I need to get some pictures of the others. Marc and Ryan if you are out there please post some pictures

I have to say I always enjoy checking out your pics. Not only because they are good, but the growth is amazing. I'm not sure what your doing, but it has to be right:lol:

IMHO the magic ingredient is:

having high quality,

fish poo

thanks hop

I use to have a tank full of great looking zoa's. For some reason most all of them died off and I have no idea if it was a predator or chemical issue. I'm leaning slightly to being a chemical issue as it seems shortly after I started using limewater they started to come back. some of them even appeared out of know where

These orange zoas, were always around but are looking much better. the picture shows just the top of a rock that is covered in them
zoa31.jpg

these next two sets decided to grow out of the sand bed - go figure. the second one (the blues) are in between two broken off sps frag pieces that I just left there

and on the subject of sps frags on the bottom of the tank, this combination of plate and ricordia is making for an interesting combination
