Pete's 280 log

I have a feeling your coral wanted to move. I've seen that happen a few times in both of my tanks (same coral), and I'm guessing they increase their size so the flow can move them to a better spot.

might they also increase size to expell something, or possibly to get more light? more surface area should mean more light.

Very little is deprived of light in Pete's tank, it is lit with the power of a small sun. He has nearly 2,000 watts over it.

Speaking of lights, Pete I have your new 72" VHO actinics. I'll hold them hostage if you don't post up some nice pics of your new sweet niger trigger. ;) hehe

I was drooling over that gorgeous fish for months, and then you convinced Frank to actually sell it from his front display. Great score! :) I have never seen a trigger that that rich a blue color and nice temperment.

My main lights where off yesterday so that's probably what was going on. Once I got home and flipped the timer back to auto and the lights came on he deflated

I'll do that Jay but he will look nicer under the new super atinics ;)

Which do you consider your "main" lights? The 3X250 watt halides in lumenbrites, or the 2x400 watt halides in lumenbrites?

Pete, if you need a spare end cap part for the VHO then call me.

Let's just say that spare parts are ridiculously expensive late on a Sunday evening at DNA.

thanks Jay, if I was thinking in advance I should have just ordered some new ones as mine are getting pretty old and crumbly.

I change the bulbs out and even with the built in reflectors I'm not picking up that much difference. :(

I would have thought I would pick up more color "pop" considering my old bulbs were probably going on 4 years.

I may lower the light rack an inch or so to see if it makes much difference

Tony - want to buy that trigger?

he just niped at one of my chromis so he's in the fuge and going on the for sale forum

Wow, really? What exactly happened?

There were chromis and smaller clowns in Frank's display, he never bothered any of those.

not sure, the way he got treated by the clowns I thought he was a total pansy.

here he is in the fuge, when my wife was feeding with the pump off he got into the pump return section. I usually have a mesh that keeps things in the fuge but it fell off a while back. So I had to pull the sump cover off to retrieve and reinstall the mesh between the fuge are and pump return area

witht the new super atiics I had to take some new pictures to see if the coral colors looked much different - it looks like I could turn up the exposure some

so now the main lights are out. I see that the new atinics do give off more light then the old ones as the tank is much brighter

so I decided to take a couple atinic only (no flash) pictures. These are with the pumps on and no tripod so I think I could do better. I only got a couple before I got a memory card full message

not much going on this week. I did try to rig up some piping to back flush my closed loop. The strainer on the inlet to the pump is under a rock and is not practical to get to. When I used the 3/4" SQWD it was easy just to hook up some tubing and back flush it, but now that I have the 1"SQWD it's hard piped.

I went to the hardware stores to get the same brand, size and schedule union in hopes to be able to disconnect the pump suction and tie in there. After getting everything built and dropping the pump I found out that the manufacture must have changed it's Union casting or something as the housing were different sizes. I knew they were different from one manufacturer to the other but I would not have guessed they would differ if they were made by the same company. ARRGG

I'm out of town all week and my electric company informed us the power would be out on Thursday, so I showed my wife how to rig up the battery powered air pumps. I just hope everything is okay and the power is not out long. Events like this just remind me I need to put some focus on power backups. I have an inverter that works fine but need something a bit more automatic in the event I'm out.

I dipped a few corals the other night, nothing bad found and tonight I decided to blast a few more with the same results, nothing bad, just a couple brittles and asterinas. One of my zoa rocks has a bad area so I may dip the entire rock next week to make sure it's not getting something bad on it.

My Red Planet is looking better, not what it use to be but at least the skin looks like it's making a comeback. I still have no idea what happened to it. Some people think it doesn't like the high light I had it in (now lower in tank) but I think something chewed on it.

I always like the looks of the milles and prostratas after they get blasted
this purple tip prostrata needs to move soon as it's burning the tips of the tort

mako mille (white ballance was on cloudy sky so color is off), it's not as blue as it looks here

Pete, if you need to borrow my generator, please let me know. I can't lift it into a vehicle though.

I'm traveling again next Friday, and will be back on Sunday if you wanted to return it then.

I hope this A. pulchera makes a comeback. It was a nice 4" colony before the AEFW's event. This remaining lone frag is all that is left. It's hanging in there but not growing much.

The A. Turaki is doing great; nice growth and colors lately

The Blue Tenuis I got from Servo is getting a slight pink in it's base

Marcs Unk continues to look amazing, I do want to lower it some to see if I can get some deeper blues out if it. I think Marc has his almost at the bottom of his tank and it's a much darker blue.

thanks Marc but I won't be able to swing by there. I have an early flight in the morning. I'll get back to you if my son of my wife can head that way. Again thanks. I think I should be okay with the pumps, I had no issues with an 8 hour outage last year, but you never know.

I may have to change my Avatar to a good close up of the blob; I'm loving the colors :)

a couple other updates this week

my tangs are all buddies again. The one yellow was in hiding for several days and was pretty tattered, but he's out like nothing happened and on his way to a full recovery.

That beautiful Niger Trigger decided to go after a couple chromis so he spent a couple days in the fuge and was taken back to the LFS on Saturday

I may have mentioned this; the Lyretails breed regularly, but what's funny is watching the chromis school around them and devour anything the Lyretails release. I don't see anything but the chromis sure know it's there as they go into a feeding frenzy after the very brief reproductive act of the Anthias. I got to get it on film but it happens about 15-20 minutes after lights out but atinics still on.

I'm still waiting for my new CA reactor, regulator and Co2 tank. ARRGG

And one more thing; I started using Aminos this week.
