still tweaking

still tweaking

DKh = 10.4 so I'm getting too much

yesterday I upped the flow in th Ca reactor so I just backed the flow down some

tank Ph yesterday and today are the same low 7.92, high 8.02

not much progress, but at least the water change tank fits in place. I think I'll build a small stand for it or put it on some foam to be safe.

I'm getting my hamburgler outfit ready so I can steal some frags. Thanks for the pictures!

haha  actually let me know if your in the area some weekend

dkh is 11.6 so I dialed the flow down and set the Ca reactor ph to 6.4 instead of 6.3

I may be down the road... my brother's starting his creative writing doctorate at UNT in the fall. He's going to make us start calling him Dr., though my son will be calling him Druncle.

Hopefully she doesnt end up under any of his tutelage. ;) Actually he's pretty good, been teaching in the area for a couple years.

I like the chormis homies taking roost in the branches.

I have to say, the Chromis hideout picture is absolutely stunning!

Heh, watch when he introduces himself to new people... the "Dr. badge" will be flashing something crazy. ;)

thanks - it's a center piece that a lot of people comment on. Both due to the size of the colony and how the chromis look and act like it's a natual habitat for them.

new addition

new addition

Was at a LFS to pick up some bulkheads and decided to add one of these to the tank. As far as I'm concerned it's a red white Coco worm. The LFS worker indicated that the deeper red / peach colored (and more expensive) ones were considered Coco worms but he didn't have another name for this one.

Very pretty. I've never bought one of those before. They sure are fun to photograph though.

I picked it up at Mid Cities (the price was right) :)

Very cool. Nice new avatar btw... I had to do a double take to see who was posting.

thanks TJ, I thought it was time to change up the Avatar so I was tested a couple over the past few days (hammer sweeper, tort and this one). I found some pictures just don't do as well when shrunk down to Avatar size but I like this one of Monte.

Here is an in progress update on the water change tank

To start, BigJay came by last night to help (thanks) but after finding I didn't have the right size hole saw we decided it was best to have a beer and think through the potential pitfalls of the design. Based on the outcome I decided to wire my drain pump up to a secondary ATO in the main sump. The ATO will cut off the power to the pump in the event the sump level drops. The failure mode was being able to turn on the drain pump while water was still circulating

I measured and re-measured to make sure the overflow line cleared the internals of my sump area. I did have to move the RO/DI reservoir latching device to make room but everything else looks clear for the spot I decided to run the pipe. So now I'm at a point of no return (almost), the tank is now drilled for a 1 1/2" bulkhead.
wcttankhole.jpg

After drilling the tank I placed it a piece of foam board and drew a circle where the overflow pipe needed to go through the stand. I wanted a large enough hole to be able to pull out the pipe with the small end of a union.
wctdrillingstand-1.jpg

Here is a picture from the inside. I installed a make shift lid to the RO/DI reservoir out of some cardboard to capture the wood shavings

At test fit of the horizontal run of the over flow pipe. I still need to add the union in the horizontal run to remove the tank for cleaning.

Perfect, it looks like you managed to plumb the circulation tank drain right where you can put it in your large bubble trap. Did you move the calcium reactor ball valve to the top 1/2 feed line, or did you decide to re-plumb that whole 1/2" manifold?

PS: I still think the extra ATO safety on the output pump is a little overkill. You'd have to turn the circulation pump on, open the valve on the sump feed, AND open the ball valve on the pump drain for disaster to strike (i.e. empty your tank into the sewer and re-fill it with RODI water). Better safe than sorry though, I suppose it's a plausable mistake to make when doing water changes in the middle of the night after being out of town all week. :)

PPS: Pete changed his avatar to that particular monti because I missed out on it when he was selling frags and I still want one. :) I'll probably get one next time Pete tries to zap some mojanos in that region. :)

PPPS: I really dig that turaki photo, it's a gorgeous coral. Thanks for sharing.
