Petmart question... does the store suck?

I went to the Petmart today off of I-75 and I heard what appeared to be a silly idea. They have a special of 40% off on livestock when you get $50 worth of stuff. Whats seemed stupid to me though was that if you would get $95 worth of stuff, you only get the 40% off of the $50, not the other $45. Does that make sense to anyone? If you go to any store at any mall or other LFS and you get a discount, its for the full price over the minimum...
Second, I know I have read several posts on here before about this store that should have kept me away to start with but... I had to learn for myself why this place sucked. To give you an idea of how bad this place was, they have an acrylic system with boxes of about 6 inch by 6inch and they had tangs, large clowns, angels, ect in them... On top of that, about a quarter of the fish had infections or was in the process of dying, is this typical for this store? I don't know if I just caught them on a bad day or what... has anyone else been there in recent weeks or the past few months?
 
The 40% is only for the $50, not the whole $90 per the store owner...
The acrylic system has different sizes with the bottom part being for larger fish... not the top row.
If you were there this morning, look at both of the flame angels, the two dead cardinals in the tank in the corner, and several of the tangs and clowns both had severe infections... if you didn't notice it while you were looking, maybe you should go work there since apparently nobody else who works there notices it either. Now don't get me wrong all LFS have sick fish... its just usually a few though. I was at the Marine Warehouse and they had several sick fish but many of them looked well.
Third, I am not bashing... I was asking... there are many threads that post how horrible this store is, I just wanted to make my own opinion and I did so.
The only reason for the post was really to see if the store is always like this or if it was just a fluke. I also think the way they do their discount is completely stupid (but more importantly... it was not marked that way and is deceptive in my opinion)... I have never seen a business discount an amount.. but not for the total purchase, just on the min. dollar amount.
 
I cant speak for the tampa store but the Bay Pines store in St. Pete is decent. Everytime i have been there the fish looked healthy. You may see an occasional fish that another fish picked on but they always seperate them when it happens. With the amount of business they do they must not be all that bad. 90% of the time the store is super busy and considering that all the livestock is shipped in who knows what conditions they are going to get some fish in bad shape. As far as the 40% off i am almost positive that it is on any livestock purchase over $50.

Don't need to call people idiots. If i remember correctly, Finz,FAOIS, and maybe a few other stores don't have fish jammed into small cubicals, but of course, thats just my observation. As far as Petmart goes, it's obvious that lots of people on this forum don't like petmart for thousands of reasons, and then there are a selected few that actually like the store, for some reason or another. Regardless look at the facts and make your own conclusions.

I think if the price is good and the fish looks healthy buy it. Every lfs i have ever been to keep s fishes in small cubies.
 
I have had outstanding success with every fish I have ever bought there. In the past 2 months I have bought a Canary Wrasse, Fox Face, Algae Blenny, and Coral Beauty all are alive and doing very well. All but one of my fish in my tank were bought there. Not to mention the rest of my fish some I have had up to 3 years in my tank that are also doing very well form The Mart .
 
Frodo, your post doesnt carry much weight... you always defend the store and it may appear to some that you are biased. Think about this for a mintue. If there are 30 people who are on RC, these people are most likely the most advanced since they have an apparent interest in learning and reading about their hobby on a daily basis. If these 30 people can go into a local store and 27 of them agree the store is not great... why would the other 3 disagree? I could list the three people who would have responded with a defense... 2 of which already did. Read the 10 threads about the store in recent months... they all have the same theme and all have the same 3 people jump in to defend the store. If the store is so great, would you like to make me a quick bet? You and I along with SRT and one other random member will all meet up and go into the store... if I can not find 10% or more of their salt stock that are either sick (any visable infection, parasite, or starvation), dead, or in way to small of a location (50% or more), I will give you $100 but if I and the other person can stand by what we all see, you provide us $100 each ($200) Sounds like a good way to put our money where our mouth is so to speak.

I would also point out that some of us have been on RC for years with hundreds of posts and others are newer to RC with fewer posts and perhaps newer into the hobby. Would you assume that those who have multiple tanks or have been on RC for years may be more experienced and therefor better able to judge LFS?

Don't buy anything from an interconnected system where you see disease in one tank: it's going to the same sump, and it's everywhere.
 
Mhurley.. how do I get those cool powers and fancy title... where do I sign up :) Man I love this place and unlike some... have for 5 years!
 
I think that was uncalled for calling lisaandmikefamil an "Idiot" Im glad that the mods did what they did. Name calling I thought stopped after 6th grade but I guess for some it doesnt....
