PG&E surcharges coming soon to a bill

Bumping this as we are quickly approaching March 1st and I have spent over an hour and cannot find anything about these new charges that are going to hit us soon. In typical PG&E fashion they are going to F us with little to no warning. We need to toss the entire CPUC board on their ***. Their mission statement is "The CPUC serves the public interest by protecting consumers and ensuring the provision of safe, reliable utility service and infrastructure at just and reasonable rates, with a commitment to environmental enhancement and a healthy California economy." I do not see how they have helped us with reasonable rates at all. Damn soon we are going to be more expensive than Hawaii for electricity.

The new high surcharge is supposed to hit people that go over 400% of baseline. So that should not hit you but they are also collapsing the three tiers into two and my guess would be tier 2 pricing is going up. So depending on how much net power you are using you could see some increase. PG&E is one of the most evil companies around :(

Charge only (for now) affects E1 users who go over 4 times the baseline. It a stick in the a** for us who live in SF because our baseline is much lower than elsewhere. PG&E always states they are charging what it costs to delivery the electricity, but I wonder how they justify the baseline differences, it can't cost that much more to deliver to San Francisco as it does to Oakland.

That said, I think I'm ok with my solar.

I do like that informational though "Only 10% of customers exceed..." then why does it matter if they exceed? Not like they're putting that much of a drain on the whole system. Really it sounds a lot like Comcast and other ISPs who put data caps into place and use the "small percentage" of users as an excuse as to why it's ok.

Yup, I wouldn't be shocked at all if the 2nd tier gets closer to what the 3rd tier pricing is currently.

Wow just wow, we are now paying the new rates but no details. There are a ton of news reports out about the rates going up and the new surcharge but no details by any of the news agencies and if you go to the pg&e tarriff website they don't show any details either. Something seriously shady is going on. I just feel we are going to totally get F***ed with a capital F. Anyone seen any details yet? Thanks.

from what I heard in the news, lowest tier price will go up, higher tier price will go down, so for people who go above tier1, cost will be about the same.
sounds to me like strategy to get more money out of solar users, where solar systems are usually setup to keep you on the lowest tier.
I think they should just charge more for solar users and charge less for those who are not.
I never went to solar because their scheme is to charge you by production, not by consumption. and for me, my consumption goes down every year.

You need to teach me this trick! If I have to remind the kids to turn the lights off one more time... :headwally:

every year or two, a kid goes to college.
I would think this applies to a lot of household. But the solar salespeople don't tell you that, because they want you to think your consumption will stay the same or continue to go up the next 20 years. But in reality, for me, I will end up paying more if I went with solar. I told them how much kwh I want, but yet they quoted me with solar panel installed on every last square inch of my roof. Then it all made sense when I realized that's because they charge you by production, not by consumption, hence they want to make as much solar power as possible.

also, when I replaced all my old appliances to new ones, my consumption immediately went to half. I realized just how inefficient old appliances are.

Yeah, I can see that. Since we had a couple of kids our usage has just about doubled. Part of that is my wife working from home now a couple days a week, but I blame the kids.

Sounds like the kids need to go. I have one leaving in Aug and he's going to cost me a fortune.:(

!

!

4 and 6 so it might look bad if I gave them the boot now. :hmm2:

Time to start dipping into that 529?

Darn, too young to kick them out. I also have little ones (6 and 11) and their time is limited with me.:) Yeah, we filled out the FAFSA a few months ago and our EFC was $34k, ouch!!:eek2:

We all know who to blame here, politely ask your wife to start working from nearby starbuck to use their electricity and wifi. But be prepared she might ask you to just run 1 T5 for 2hr/wk. and keep the tank to 65F instead.:hmm2:

Ok here we go. Finally found it. It's not linked on their website that I could find. So net net rates are going up a few cents a kw/h on tier 1 and 2. Tier 1 is now 20c a kw and tier 2 is 27.6c. Over 400% of baseline it is 40.1c a kw. So actually those of using over 400% will most likely be saving money a month as we now I'll pay 27.6c up until 400% va 27c after 200%. This move really screws over low power users which includes solar customers. So not the end of reefing right now but I see them figuring out how to really screw over the 400% users as they are now an easy target for the CPUC and an easy customer for pge to steal more of our money. This is so evil. They like to say our bills are around the national average but that's the overall bill, not the price per until. Due to our fairly mild climate we use 1/3 - 1/2 the energy needs of a lot of the country but there monthly costs are about the same and that's how to sell this to the PUC of every time they want a rate increase and it just gets rubber stamped. So corrupt.

There are things we can control, and there are things we cannot control.
there really is not much we can do for things we don't have control over.

That's the first thing they teach you in stress management class :)
