pH goes from 8.5 to 8.2 when windows are closed in my home

Is the air in my home that saturated with CO2?

Temps are rising in Phoenix, AZ and my wife wants to run the air conditioner.

My plan is to open the windows at night. Any ideas?

i have constant problems with lowered ph when the windows are closed during the summer/winter...love it when i get to open the windows

Mine PH is usually 7.9 in the morning and gets up to 8.1 during the day with the windows closed. This morning after having had the windows open all night it was 8.1 so yes it does make a big difference. That being said I did not have any issues with it getting down to the 7.9 range when the windows were closed.

All you need to do is put a line outside to feed the air in the skimmer.

That will go well until someone sprays pesticides. I have seen posts online where that has happened. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

I would be content with a pH of 8.2 with the windows closed. So long as it stays with a reasonable range of 7.6-8.5 or so I think you're fine.

I would recommend reading the pH articles in the Reef Chemistry archives that Randy originally wrote. You may not need to be too concerned about your pH if it stays within a good range.

If you are really worried about it, set up a CO2 scrubber to your skimmer intake. I have heard a lot of people are having great success with that. I think the media is the same stuff used in re-breathers for divers and can be found at dive shops.

Your pH at 8.5 is too high anyway, you might wanna re-calibrate your pH meter with 7.0 and 10.0 buffer solution.

My ph goes from 7.6 to around 8.0 from night to day with my tank in the basement and all windows closed. IMO if my corals look as happy/colorfull and grow as they do im not changing anything!

My pH goes from 7.9 to 8.2 - slightly lower in the summer when I've to close all windows and turn on the air cond.
