Ph. higher, lower

Yeah its cyano.......

People freak out on this stuff.......its just like the hair and brown algae that you will see....just a succession in the algae right of passage....every tank goes through it.

Be vigil on your water changes and make sure you have enough flow.....since you bought a nano....you should be alright in that dept.

This stuff gets to be a problem when people get it and don't do regular water changes and it get infested, but we all get it and it eventually goes away.

I don't know if you guys noticed....but even Johns tanks a Yourreef had it when they first got going.......just be patient and keep up the water changes and it will go away eventually.

ok,it sounds like its from uneated food and biological waste that accumulates...
u think it will help by adding maybe another powerhead ,or maybe turnning nozle down facing the sand?

I've used ChemiClean to successfully treat a nano once, but the cyano generally speaking will go away by itself and just seems to be part of cycling a new tank (just like diatoms, etc).

Thats my theory as well.....in fact I believe there is an algae succession of sorts as the tank matures.

ok,water change have been made 40% and light going off at night, flow its hitting the rocks now, every day i keep seeing more cyano on sand so hopefully it will stop, would it make it worse if i move the sand? i notice the cyano have some like air bubbles...

Eventually it will go away, it may tank a few weeks.......nothing happens quickly......

the bubbles are the outgassing from the cyano feeding and expelling.....

Just keep your schedule of light and water changes.....it will run its course and go away.......unless........you get lazy about water changes and over feed....then it will thrive......soon something else will complete for its food source and it will go away......whats the old saying.....Rome wasn't built in a day.....neither are fish tanks......mine just kinda got to where I want it, and its been two years.

If it really bothers you you can (and maybe should) siphon it out. But, don't blow it around your tank with a turkey baster since you don't wait it falling on your corals or starting up in other places.

ok guys, the cyano still coming hard every day...it might take over all the sand in maybe 5 days, should i do something about it? some rocks are getting some too,my little shroom and zoas are on sand and they getting cover by the cyano... any suggestions??

Manually remove it. You wont get it all, and shouldnt worry if you dont. It's not going to go away anytime soon but this will keep it in check and be somewhat more aesthetically pleasing and at the same time dont let you corals get covered in it, it will just inhibit there growth and utilization of photosythesis for however long it's smothering said coral. At the very least, your going to be dealing with this for a couple weeks to a month. Your job is to just stay the steady course of routine waterchanges, and 3-5 day intervals of cleaning/replacing any filter media, like sponges, filter floss, pads etc. If your seeing it look hopeless after a month rethink your feeding routine and/or ramp up the flow in your tank.

Finally kicked the cyano by:

- adding phosphate adsorbant (PhosBan)
- adding chemi-clean
- siphoning all of it off the sand
- blowing it off the LR
- swapping out filter socks every 3 days

Not sure which of the above was the reason but it's gone.
