What are the parameters for matching water quality?

For Temp, what is the acceptable differential range? Same for pH and Salinity?

I am anal retentive and have been trying to match within .5' and after contacting Coralife regarding a thermometer that was off by 2', I was told "Oh, thats not too bad" :eek1:
So, How close do we need to be?

thanks for the feedback!

if ur moving from tank to tank or ship to tank i would get temp as close to tank as possible (within 1 degree) and also salinity as close to tank as well. ph can swing a bit (7.8-8.2) but if u are in those ranges u be fine.

on water changes i just match salinity. i dont care for temp or ph, i do 3 gal water changes everyday so temp and ph swing in not that much.

The answer depend son how much you change at once. I do changes very slowly with an automatic system, and never match anything.

I generally would not even try to match pH.

If the change is 20% or less, a few degrees difference is no concern.

I'd try to get the salinity within about 1 ppt if you change a substantial amount at once. :)

Say for example a 30gal wc on a mixed reef 125.. with 30 gal Ref.
Temp (+/-) 3' ?
Salt (+/-) .002 ppm?
pH btw 7.8 - 8.4 ? (my tanks seem to hold pH @ 8.1 - 8.4)

I have a few swimmers in a Hypo QT for Ich that I hope will be able to return to DT next month. just getting my ducks in a row...

The temp range is fine.

I think you have a unit confusion on the salinity. Do you mean something like specific gravity = 1.025 +/- 0.002? If so, that's fine. :)

Thanks Randy,

yes 1.025 (+/-) .002 introducing a fish from 1.023 into 1.026 should be Okedokee? (thats .003)

I am having more of an issue with pH climbing in my HT (75 BB Reef w/ Bioball wet/dry) @ 1.009

try to keep it at 8.2, but likes to hang at 8.4 - 8.6
I continue water changes to try and maintain...
