i've added a little less than 200ml(please convert the volume for me)of GFO in my reactor on a 160 gallons per hour pump and ball valve set completely open.i couldn't get the media to tumble in the reactor.i must say that i use tunze's GFO which has a pellet diameter of roughly a quarter of an inch.Is it this, the volume of GFO or the power of the pump? Thanks

Ok, I'll give this a shot.

A container of Phosban is 150 grams. You say 200 ml, but I think you mean grams?

If that's true, you added more than a whole container of phosban. In my opinion that's way too much.

You should only have about an inch and a half to two inches of GFO.

And I think your pump is under powered.

I use a Maxi-Jet 900 (230 Gallons per minute)

Hi,im not using phosban,im using tunze's GFO in a phosban 150.
I am using 200ml of the media which is roughly 3 inches tall in the reactor.it is indeed too much but i am fighting green hair algae and thought of trying a little more GFO.Today i filled the reactor completely with seachem's carbon after a flatworm exit treatment and the carbon was tumbling with the ball valve not even fully open so i guess its the weight and the volume of GFO that was the problem..Do you really think my pump is underpowered for GFO use in a 150?im affraid about leaking..

I use a Maxi-jet 900.

You can always turn a pump down but you can't make it pump more when it's wide open.

Use less GFO and you should be fine. Vigorous tumbling is not necessary in a reactor. You only need "movement" within the media to avoid channeling and to ensure all of the surface area comes into contact with tank water. The same applies for GAC but it is so light that it typically isn't a problem.
