Phosban reactor and use of GFO

So I read an interesting thread on the use of a Phosban reactor in a system and wanted MARS opinion on its use.

I will be setting up a 120 that I plan to stock heavily. Lots of fish with a mixed reef. Probably won't get near SPS for a while, but I really like Zoas and LPS.

Questions:
1. Do you use a Phosban style reactor?
If so:
2. What size system do you have and what is your bioload?
3. How much media do you use and how often do you change it?

If you don't use GFO:
4. Why not? Do you feel GFO isn't needed for any setup or just not for yours?

Thanks. It would probably be easier if I just asked if I should use a Phosban reactor for my setup. If so, how soon should I add it to the system?

Another question: Has there been a GFO group buy recently? Where can I get it for cheap (if I decide to use a reactor)?

I think he means GFIC.. ground fault interrupt circuit.. and yes, everyone should use one.. is your livestock and your house worth a $15 part?

GFO = granulated ferric oxide.

Its pretty much the generic term for Phosban or Rowaphos (so I have read).

Here is the thread I was referring to. It has some very good info.

I have apx 200g of volume.

I use 150 grams of PhosBan in a PhosBan reactor and I Chang it apx every 2 mo or as needed but about every 6-8 weeks.

I also do a 30gallon WC every Sunday w/ Reef Crystals.

As far as bio load i'd say it's heavy.

Ed, do you change it due to time or are you checking the output of the reactor and detecting PO4?

Doesn't that much volume change of PhosBan become.... dare I say, expensive? :D

GFO = Granular Ferric Oxide (the stuff you use in the reactor).

My bad. :)

I only use rowa.. my regiment cycle is:

week1: 2 tbsp
week2: +2 tbsp
week3: +2 tbsp
week4: +2 tbsp
week5: 0 added (running 8 tbsp)
week6: 0 added (running 8 tbsp)
week7: 0 added (running 8 tbsp)
week8: 0 added (running 8 tbsp)
week9: dump old media and restart cycle
