Just curiosu if this is a worth while investment....seems cheap enough. if it is goign to help the tank out why not..

They seem to be all the rage in Euro tanks. I have no expirience with them but I'm sur a search will pull up some info for you. If the RC search is down try google. From what I understand they are a PITA to setup.

I love them and wouldn't run a tank without one anymore. I run one of the new TLF twist-off top reactors with ROWAphos.

i run 2 of them on my 300 gallon tank with Eheims powering them.. I always liked carbon and you cant beat the price for the units.

I run one on my 90 gallon. About every 3 months or so, I start to see an increase in my algae. I change out the media (phosban) and it goes away. I am actually thinking about getting a 2nd one.

i have been thinking about the same thing for the past few days, after listeneing to the reefcast actually, but i dont know i think that even if you just run carbon in it, it is more worth it than a power filter to run carbon. Probably what i will do

That's what I like about this site, whenever i'm considering something new for my tank, a thread pops up about the same topic. I'm glad to hear the good word about Phosban reactors. I
was just about to put a TLF on my 90. Is one brand of media actually better than another or just another name on the package?

Ramone,

I have only tried the Phosban. I like it. I have heard that Rowaphos is good too (but I have also heard that the phos can leach into the sytem if you leave it in there too long). But don't take my word on that statement, I have never used the Rowaphos.

Well great looks like I'll be adding this addition to my system...Thanks. Now what are the best ones out there? I see the Phosban Reactor 150 from Lil Fishies Inc. Sells for about 30.00.

Is thgis a good one?

What size GPH pump to I need for it in a 150 G system?

Do I place this directly in the sump or can I place it outside the sump?

I use the Lil fishies one. I have a mini jet that is rated at 80 gallons an hour on it. I keep mine sitting in my sump. Make sure that every 3 months you change the media. I put the new media in the reacor adn put the pump in a 5 gallon bucket full of water. I then put the output hose in the sink and run about 3 gallons through the reactor to get all the fine red dust out. Then I reinstall on lmy sump. Here is a pic.

I run a Phosban reactor on my 60g SPS system. Phosphates weren't an issue before, but I run it on there just incase and it picks up any leftover phosphates.

For $70 (pump, reactor, and media), its something I wouldn't run a tank without.

Here is a pic of the pump I use. I got if for about $20.00 at my LFS. I run it on the lowest setting and I also cut back the flow with the regulator they provide with the reactor. You want just enough water running through it so that just the top of the media is lightly churning. Too much flow will break up the media into a dust.

I installed the 2 little fishies 150 today, unfortunately he didn't have any phosban so I have to order that. I also am going to use the minijet pictured above

I love mine. I have two, teed off running a MJ pump. One has carbon, the other has phosban.

They are awesome.

Not that I have been reefing for that long, but my guess is that the iron-hydroxide based phosphate removal compounds (Phosgard / RowaPhos) that have come along recently are a huge improvement in reef-keeping technology. Even though you are basically buying high purity "rust" at a ridiculas price, the stuff really does work well. When you consider what it can do for your tank if you have excess phosphate, you just cant beat it.

I never even bought a reactor. I just rinse the material in RO/DI water, put it in a mesh bag, and place it my sump (I have a strainer compartment built into my sump). I have also run it through an external cannister filter (Fluval 404) with good results.

I just love the stuff and what it does for my tank!
