anyone use both media in one reactor?

i am going to put carbon in the bag to the reactor.
what should be the order?
Phosban bottom?~

any future damage you can think of?~

I started my 55 gallon reef with a fluval 405 due to limited space in my under cabinets. I had to work with it. I put in four 330 gram chemi pure elite bags + four 150 gram bags of Phosban. That made it 50% carbon, 50% Phosban. The order is first carbon, then phosban. It works great for me.

I would put carbon on top, gfo/phosban on bottom... that way the carbon doesn't clog the flow for the gfo to always tumble.

Push the carbon up to the top tight, then fill bottom of reactor with gfo leaving enough room at the top for it to tumble.

I run both in my BRS Deluxe reactor, carbon goes on top and GFO on bottom. The main downside to the setup is carbon needs to be changed before GFO is exhausted so I end up changing GFO more often than needed.

I don't really think they are very effective long term. I usually change them every 2 weeks just to keep it fresh even though i'm pretty sure both medias still have some life left. I have mixed it before and carbon usually floats to the top.

If your just starting GFO it will need changing often for the first few times. If you have any visible algae manually remove it. Tooth brush and suck it out if you have to. Any visible algae is storing phosphates and it will take a lot longer and cost a lot more if you try to cure algae with GFO.
