Where do you guys put your Phosban Bag to remove phosphates. I have a sump and an overflow box

As a suggestion I would invest in a phosban reactor(35$) and hook it to the side of the sump.
Unlike in the bag the phosban media is allowed to slightly heave which gives it a better adsorption surface area.

I'll look into that, until then can I put it in an overflow box in back compartment, needs flow through of water it states. Need to get my phosphates down ASAP, they are at .05

My po4 was at .5 like yours, I was using phosban in a bag, no difference. I bought a reactor for 50 bucks total, one week later my po4 was at 0. Best 50 bucks ive spent in a long time.

yep just drop it in near some flow, but as the capn a reactor is better in the long haul

Looks like the reactor uses tubes, where does the feed come from?

basically there are 2 flexible pipes, 1 is connected to a pump, a maxi-jet 400 is a perfect pump for a reactor, and the second is just the return to the sump or tank from the reactor, thats it really. just pop your media in the bag into a flow area for now and do some more investigating. i think i have some pictures of them somewhere, its very straight forward and nothing to concern your self about, if you can get 1, you will be glad you did

Thanks Michael ---Just researched some more, think I will get the hang on one with maxi-jet, probably will order one tomorrow. Any particular brand you would recommend for a 75 gal tank?

I was just looking at "Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor 150"

thats a good reactor, and get a maxi-jet 400 with it and you wont go far wrong, fill it approx 1 quarter rowa phos to 3 quarters water to start, 1 bit of advice, make up some sea water add about 2 gallons extra to your system so the water level in the sump is high, then set up the reactor by just hanging it on the side of the sump and dropping the mj400 in the water, and then stick the return pipe into a bucket next to the sump, switch it on and allow the extra water to go through the reactor into the bucket, when the water is back down in the sump to the proper level then just drop the pipe back from the bucket into the sump, this will illiminate any rowaphos or black water in the tank, any problems just let me know

Thank you very much, I will order it tomorrow and thanks for help on how to set up & use. Very appreciated.

Do you run carbon? The reason I ask, is that you could get another reactor, and run carbon in it. Won't have to get another pump, just daisy chain the two together. Will still be able to use the MJ400.

Of course if you already have a way to run carbon don't worry about it.

Good idea. Will look into this, also. Out of curiosity, is it possible to effectively run the carbon and phosban media together in the same reactor?

Not really. A couple of reasons; they will get exhausted at different rates, so would have to change one sooner then the other. Also, the grain size of each is different, and the odds are good that the phosban will be ground up by the carbon, which isn't a good thing.

You can run both in Bulk Reef Supply GFO reactor. Their website has a video that shows you how. They also carry a dual reactor. You can then run both GFO and carbon, and replace at different rates.

One other note, if you are going to run both, carbon and phosgaurd on the same pump, put the carbon first, that way if the carbon releases some po4 the phos will pull it out. JMO
