Photon V2, AquaSanrise, or SuperNova

Hi all,

I have a 90 gallon and have had all sorts of lights on the tank (except MH). Tried the powercompacts, t5, t12HO, diy led, Kessils, Radions, and now want to replace my current lights with something else.

I originally had 2 kessils on the tank which was fine, but 1 gave out on me and now I have a radion and a kessil on the tank. I don't like having mismatched lights and don't want to get a second unit of either light.

Now I'm looking at the Photon V2 and the AquaSanrise. Not sure if I should wait for the SuperNova. It's not urgent but I'd prefer to have the light in by Jan Wk2.
I'm starting to get into SPS and trying to get more equipment to better my chances of housing SPS.

I placed an order for the new Apex but then changed my mind and canceled it. There are several controllers out there now and I wasn't sure if the Apex was the best choice (it looks it) but want to research more prior to getting it.

Current equipment that I have on the tank (incase this info is needed):

Kessis A360
Radion G2Pro
Trigger System Ruby Sump
SRO 2000INT
DIY ATS
MP40
Jebao SW4
BRS Dual Reactor (Carbon & Phos) - Have it on for now as I've run into Phos problems due to a certain lady dumping the entire can of NLS pellets.


2 little fishes - Pellet reactor (Not online)
CoralLife Turbo Twist 3x(Not online)

With that said, I'd want my new light to be modular and if some leds burn out I'd be able to change it (AquaSanrise) or even change the colors if I choose. The Photon has an external controller where the Sanrise has an app. I'm leaning on the Sanrise but have not seen anyone with it or review it yet.

The SuperNova would trump both lights but I've not seen one yet and speaking to Logan he is just getting the beta test going. It may be a while until this is ready.

If anyone has or knows anyone with the AquaSanrise, can you please link me to them? I'd like to check the reviews and get their thoughts and feelings on the light before I go ahead and purchase it.

If you look around at the RB forum, they have been kicking around the SuperNova for a long, long, long time. This will be the just another of the Beta test fixtures, don't hold your breath.

That said, between the Photon V2 and the Aqua Sanrise, the PAR, the leds, 6 channel control... the only real difference I see is the use of your smart phone and an app rather than a dedicated remote.

Are there other differences?

I have used EverGrow fixtures, the same as the old Photons, because they are made by EverGrow, for 4 years and they still work great! But my 180g tank broke (leaked) and I got a new CADLight 125g and the old EverGrows don't fit the 5' long tank. So I got a new V2 50" for the reef and a V2 16" for the display refugium and I'm very satisfied with them at nearly 3 months.

Ron - thank you for your insight on the lights and the SuperNova. You are correct, the supernova has been discussed for quite some time with no real proof of it coming in the near future.

I personally like the look of the Photon V2 but I think you can not change the leds if they burn out....is that correct? If that is the case, I think I would go with the Sanrise and I like the fact that you can control it with an app.
