I was on the fence about the photoshopping thing when the contest rules were made up. After a few people have posted about disagreeing with photoshopping I have decided that maybe we need to vote on whether it will be allowed. I'll continue gathering results until May 1st and then the decision about whether to allow photoshopping will be made. So, let me know your input by voting in this poll. If you want to add additional comments or verify why you feel how you feel, feel free to post in this thread :)

EDIT:
I thought I'd mention that photoshopping, in my eyes, DOES NOT include resizing...that's necessary. The altering of colors and stuff is what I think photoshopping is.

NO...Pretty simple to understand why...I would bet there is people out there that have bought something online that was NOTHING like what they received.

I would think this issue has lots of ups and downs . I use my program to just zoom in and fix shade so the picture looks more like what it looks like in the tank . Is this wrong ?

DST - I think that's ok, what I don't agree with is enhancing the color to crazy proportions and stuff.

I say "no" to photoshopping.

I didn't sticky this thread, Chelsey, because sticky threads tend to get ignored.

dave;)

Well thats easy to fix .The winner should have no problem letting someone come out and look at their tank for themselves if there is a issue after the fact .

I mean, it's not the end of the world either way. I'm not going to waste my time calling someone on it should I think they are doing it even if it is made a rule.

I'm not so concerned about lightening up the pic or whatnot because taking tank pics is hard. I'm more so talking about the color enhancing, etc...

We can always have contest just for photo shopping in the future. That would be fun.

I like that idea, I've seen some pretty wild pics out there that have been shopped.

I voted no by the way, too much to learn to do it right.

The only thing I do in photoshop is check the levels, with possible slight adjustment. I don't adjust color. I used to but now I just take better pics :) Then I do unsharp mask slightly and resize. That is my basic workflow. I find the digital tends to make the edges slightly fuzzy and the unmask sharp helps. So pics don't need it and come out sharp naturally. Which I try to do anyway but sometimes my camera does not agree on my focus.

^^ I agree. I normally adjust the levels and then an unsharp mask and if I shot at a high ISO I might run it through another program to get rid of some noise.

While "photoshopping" can make a picture look much better than it actually is, it can also make it look much more like the true subject... but then again I don't consider that photoshopping but rather just normal post processing of a digital image, which is really no differnt than using a differnt white balance setting in your camera to get you a better looking picture.

I also was under the impression that this contest was only for bragging rights or are you goign to have a prize each month? If its only for bragging rights, then what's the big fuss? The simpler you make it the more "fun" it will be for all.

I would think that enhancing shading is no different than enhancing coloration

you could have a stock contest and a photoshop contest

isn't the point of a photo contest to see who can take the best photo? not who can enhance photos the best...I can enhance, but I can't take a good photo
