Phyto Questions

I have some questions regarding phyto species suitable for broadcast feeding of an azoox tank and would appreciate some input from those who've used phyto

In Australia, we don't have access to much in the way of fresh stuff but there is one supplier of reed mariculture phyto's however the 1 quart bottles are the smallest we can get and they have on average a 3-4 month use-by which is too short for my purposes.

I am obviously interested in shellfish diet but it can't be frozen which is the issue so I am thinking of possibly looking into a single species which can be frozen to prolong its useable life but am worried that I will not provide enough balance with a single species product but am currently thinking Tetraselmis or Nanno.

would there be any downsides going to a single species phyto culture or would I be better purchasing shellfish diet and freezing half the bottle and risking cell structure damage?

I am using it in the tank for dendronephtya, coco worms etc and live food enrichment (rots & artemia)

Instant Algae and the rest of our aquaculture product lines do not come in any smaller volumes, but we do sell smaller volumes in our Reef Nutrition and APBreed product lines.

FOr what you are trying to do, there is no one phyto that will work. I suggest trying RotiGrow Plus. It'll do all you want it to do... the only unknown is the Dendro, I have not heard of any trials with them (and I'd here about them given I am into Azoox and work for RMI).

Freezing SD will indeed cause cell damage, no unknown there I am afraid. We'd love to be able to sell it frozen, and our customers have asked for that for years.

We have a new product coming out soon under the APBreed product line: SDaquarist. It will be a new version of Shellfish Diet sold in smaller volumes.
