Picasso?

Today at my LFS, I was told that the pairing of my b/w ocellaris and orange ocellaris was rare. Also, he said that when they reproduce, the fry will end up being Picasso clowns. Is that true? If not, what WILL the fry end up looking like? (The male is the orange and the female is the b/w.) How are Picasso clowns produced? Please dont say two picasso clowns breeding. Thanks.

Thats certainly not true. LFS will say anything. Most of the time is complete crap. Picasso has nothing to do with color of the parents. Its a rare genetic trait that is present with a few of the offspring. All you will probably see is: Some Orange, Some Black, and Some Dark Orange-Black.

When I go there, I just usually ask the price and how it eats. They don't really know very much...

Part of the reason that your LFS is wrong is that Picassos are Percs, not ocellaris.

As for B&W and an orange ocellaris mating... (( I could be wrong, so take this is for what it is worth ))

I would think it would be like a red head and a brunette having kids, going to have a mix.

its not quite misbaring because the boundaries are blurred but its there... like a gradiant.

I usually try to be a polite person, but I don't think I would have been able to contain myself if I were there. That's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. I think the laughter would have just escaped, uncontrollably.


Your fish and Picassos are not even the same species.

I would have more respect for a LFS employee if they just said, "I don't know". Why do they have to make up ridiculous stuff off the top of their head?

just ask. They sell in the fish store for 39.99 so i bet you can find homes for them at 19.99 + shipping easily. Whatever you do. Do not think they are crossbreeds. Some will be orange, some will be black, some will be orange/black. You can market them as such.

I will try Petco, PetSmart, Jeff's Exotic Fish (my LFS), and online I guess. Maybe I will also try to breed other fish that I can buy from Petco or some cheap place like that and sell them the offspring! LOL.
