Picassos = False Percs. O RLY?

I was surfing the interwebz to see if anyone had any Picassos or snowflakes available. From an Ebay ad (which I probably can't link):

"Also, Since Platinums, Snowflakes, and Picassos are False Percula Clownfish, A Platinum will pair up with a snowflake, or Picasso, naked, Misbar, or any other Variety of False Percula clown fish. So you could have a Mated Pair of A Platinum and a Snowflake, or a Picasso and a Snowflake, or a Misbar and a Picasso, or a Naked Clown fish and a regular False Percula. ORA is currently breeding Misbars and Picassos in order to get the Platinum and Snowflake clowns. The Platinum clown fish are so rare because only 2% off all the young wind up being Platinum Clown Fish according to Vince at ORA who we know personally. A slightly higher percentage wind up being Snowflake clowns, around 5%, and slightly higher are A grade Picassos, slightly higher being B Grade Picassos, and the rest are assorted Misbar clownfish. For Potential breeders, breeding Platinum clowns with Platinum clowns will rear a higher percentage of Platinum clowns, but you will still get snowflake Clownfish and Picasso Clownfish and Misbar Clown Fish. However, you can still get Platinum Clown Fish from breeding a Platinum with a Snowflake or Picasso, or misbar, just the percentage of the much rarer Platinums and snowflakes and Picasso will be lower. ORA used to discard Misbar clownfish while breeding False Percula Clowns, but now they have not only been selling and breeding the Misbars, but also using the extreme misbar clown fish to get a small percentage of Picassos, Picassos to get a small percentage of snowflakes, and snowflakes to get a small percentage of Platinums. Going the other way(less white coloration rather than more), they have successfully used the original false percula clownfish to produce the ORA naked clowns which have no white markings."

Maybe they need to talk to Vince more...

That's why I hate the name "false percula". It's confusing, and insinuates that ocellaris is somehow mimicking percula. If we just said, this fish is an ocellaris and this one is a percula, it would stop much of this confusion. Ocellaris is no more a "false percula" than a percula is a "false ocellaris".

I agree with what you said but the real problem I had with the description was that Picassos and Platinums are Perculas, not ocellaris. And if you were to breed either of those with a naked, snowflake, or "false percula", you would get a....hybrid (although probably an interesting hybrid).

I guess I just chuckled a little bit when you put together a huge detailed description, namedrop, and then get it all wrong.

Is someone maybe projecting a little??? Hmmmm? :blown:

I always thought it should be the other way around since the ocellaris tend to stick to their markings more than percula. The percula seems like the real poser... but I guess the percula was probably discovered first or something.

:o

It was just such a descriptive, well thought out listing that I really admired it (except for the fact that it is wrong).

I am going to start calling my percs "false ocellaris" just so they can see how it feels.
