Guys, Gals,

help me out here....

Walmart, publix, cvs, no one know what this stuff is. I am trying to grab some pickling lime to setup my calcium dripper for my tank and have not had any luck with local resources. I know i can order the stuff online but would hate to know it was under my nose the entire time. They sent me to the "canning" isles, i dont know what this is, the spices isles, the cleaning isles, the arts and crafts isles.. Nothing!!

Does anyone have any pictures? brands? help!

Thanks ya'll...

Is it even worth all of the head ache or is it just better of going and getting kent kalkwasser mix for 10.99 for 450mg from bigalsonline.com??

It's usually with the canning supplies in most places I've seen that carry it. Other tell tale items that your in the right spot would be Ball Mason Jars and parafin. However, not all places carry plain pickling lime. Around here I get mine from Agway.

Generally in canning supply area in grocery stores, I have seen it in Mom & Pop type hardware stores, and in Wal-Mart it is typically in or very close to the kitchen appliances. It is only a little over $2 for a pound of it at Wal-Mart.

I bought it where Randy is pointing. The stuff is cheap relative to shipping costs so you might stock up.

Its harder to find when its not canning "season" wait till the seasons over and get it cheap when stores blow it out. I got 2# at walmart for $.50 a quarter a pound can't beat that. Not even on the internet

i bought 35 cans of ms wages pickling lime last year for .25 a piece on clearance its all in the time of year

I bought about 80 pounds of Mississippi Lime quicklime about 10 years ago in a group buy, and am still using it. :D

That is awesome! I am assuming the instructions for mixing this picking lime is the same as the old kalkwasser? make the mix, let it settle then let it drip?

Have a question, started using the Ms Wages pickling lime. And the next day when I went to refill it with water and new mix, it stunk to high heaven!!!!! Is this normal, don't remember it with the "kalkwasser" from kent and others.

Limewater itself has no smell.

What did you use for the source water?

When my DI is depleted, a lot of ammonia comes out since my water supply has chloramine in it, and when in high pH as in limewater, the ammonia easily comes out and stinks.

Geez, we can, freeze and dry veggies from our garden every year and I never knew pickling lime could be used for the aquarium. Someone please give me a big chump slap.

Where do I look for directions on how to do this? I have never used kalk, only B-Ionic.

Also, I have found that canning supplies are much harder to find in urban areas. Out in rural areas every store of any kind has them during the summer. The cheapest place around here is the Dollar Store.
