You can save me a several trips if you have an idea if local supermarkets usually carry Mrs. Wages pickling lime, and in what section I would look for them.

$46.34 shipped for a case of 12 (1 lb.ea.)

I only need 1/2 a case.

Shipping will probably cost less if we can get 3 or 4 people in a small group buy for several cases.

I wouldn't mind conducting the order so I can avoid driving to someone's house to pickup. We'll see if there's anymore interest.

Check with GOLFISH. I recall a thread where he was setting up a large buy for calcium hydorxide.

That's not dead... just holding it's breath. I'd buy the Mrs. Wages if you are in need. Still a lot cheaper than "packaged for the hobby" products.

Since there's no expressed interest, I think I'll just go it alone for now. Will offer to sell a few units at cost to neighboring members.

Go to a Mexican market or restaurant and ask for "Cal" (food grade pickling lime).

It's used by Mexicans to process corn into masa to make fresh tortillas.

In an emergency, you can buy the little packages in the spice section for less than a dollar. If you need pounds of it (which is how the restaurants by it), you usually have to ask them for it and make a deal.

I've been eating tortillas since the 60's and never knew they had calcium hydroxide in the recipe.
But then I'd have never guessed it was in my soft drink either.
