I got a Deresa and Crocea today, the Deresa is doing great , the Crocea I am having a hard time finding a place for, and my longnose bothers him, I also believe he lost his byssal gland, all of it. Is he doomed?
Heres pics of them from about 30 mins in tank

? if your doomed but at least it's mantle is still extended. The deresa is realy nice looking. Hope everything works out.

Off the subject: your photo quality is awesome, what kind of camera do you use...

There is no bisal left. and the piece that came off was about 1-2" long ,stringy at one end , not stringy at the other end.
That pic of the Crocea was before he lost his byssal, he is not as open now.
The camera is a Nikon D100

What you describe is the thread bundle, not the gland itself. It is like a cartilage piece with thread on one end. Clams often release the thread bundle after the threads were cut. They will form new bundle and reattach. No problem. If your clam is not doing well, it is not because of this.
Good luck.

Thanks Minh , what you described sounds like it, Like a piece of cartlidge with threads on the other end.
So far its doing ok, it opens and closes as shadows pass over it. Hopefully my longnose butterfly will stop bothering him, the longnose doesnt bother either of my other two clams, maybe she likes blue and not brown.
