I just got started in reefing 7 weeks ago and thus far its more expensive than planned but at the same time, I'm having a great time.

My other hobby for the past 3 years has been digital photography. I have 2 nikon DSLRS and around 7 lens. If you are interested here is a link to my pbase photo gallery of New York City ! http://www.pbase.com/rfcd100/root

Here are some recent images from a few of my beginner corals taken with a Nikon D200.

nice crisp, well exposed shots. I think the cleaner shrimp shot could have benefited from use of a slightly faster shutter to avoid the blurred antennae.... there's also some noise evident in a couple of shots so assume you must be on a high ISO? what lenses have you got?

Your pbase galleries are very nice by the way. I especially like the panorama shots. Any chance of a quick overview of how you created the balcony VR image?

Wow! Those are some great shots!

Ok, please explain your process for getting them: camera settings, lens used, etc. I just got a D200 about a week ago and will hopefully be giving it a shakedown run this weekend. I'm boggled by all of the features on the camera but am very excited at its capabilities. Of course, most of a picture quality is dependent on the photographer and *then* the equipment. But top grade equipment does help!

Never did learn all the features on my Nikon D1.....now I've got 200 pages of technical manual to read to learn the D200.

Hi iCam, Jclipper, VoidRaven,

Thanks for the comments. I have a lot to learn when it comes to marine photography. Its a totally new ballgame compared to what I normally shoot

Jclipper. I used the nikkor 60mm micro for these images and shot handheld at iso 800 so a little grain can be seen. In regards to my QTVR......
The balcony shot was 22 image 360 panorama taken with the nikkor 12-24 and stitched with ptgui. It was subsequently converted via Pano2qtvr to the resulitng movie.
Both are great programs. www.ptgui.com and www.Pano2qtvr.com.

Voidraven, I shot these images with the nikkor 60micro hand held iso 800 in jpeg. They were then post processed in photoshop CS2. I too am still learning about my D200. Its a great camera. You might want to check out www.nikoncafe.com. Its a great moderated forum for nikon users.

Thanks again everyone for the comments.

Hi RFC,

Beautiful pictures! Are you pairing the D200 with the 18-200mm VR lens or are you using a macro lens? Using any tripod with the shots? I'm learning to take pictures now on aquariums.
thanks,

FA

Awesome shots....and thanks for the link. I'll have to check it out.

Spent some time at the zoo this weekend to give the camera a shakedown run. I think it preformed pretty well despite me having some problems with the new Color Matrix II Metering system. But overall I have to say that I really love the D200.
