Pics of my first Saltwater Tank

I've got about all the frags I can take now, just waiting on them to grow a bit and fill up the tank.

The grag in the second pic...what is it called? mine hasn't opened up in about 3 days. Should I be worried? I'd like to get more if anybody has some they want to get rid of.

The kenya trees will likely be temporary/trimmed back once things start to fill up the tank some. I wanted to get some quickly growing things to help fill space until then.

These pics are left side and right side.

I find the thing I hate most is arranging the rocks in the tank. :sad2:

on the right side, the palythoa (I think it is) that's green with stripes, and only 3 polyps...I wouldn't midn finding some more of it if the price was right too.

lookin good, you're off to a great start! thanks for postin!

i like playing with the rocks...but the more frags you get in there, the harder it is to do without crushing stuff.

are you talking about the frag in the third pic? are those those ginormous palys? they're cool. how long have you had them? have they been happy in that spot for a while?

So far, most of the stuff I have can be moved off of rocks, since they're on frag plugs or rubble. But arranging the rocks and placing the frags where they're happy and will look right when they grow out onto the rocks is the part I don't like....especially arranging the rocks.

Is that the name for them, ginormous palys? :fun2:
I've had them up in front of the tank for quite a while and they have done fine. I did move them towards the center, but they have always been on the bottom. They probably get the same flow rate now and are at the same elevation in the tank. Do they typically like a lot of light, or a little? A lot of flow, or a little?

ginormous palys, of the humongozoid genus of course. :worried:

i wouldn't worry yet, if you just moved them, i'd give them a little bit, but i'm no expert!

Those are Palythoa grandis, the largest Zoanthid, commonly referred to as "Cinnamon polyps". They are hardy and will probably be fine. Just keep things stable and be patient.

Thanks!

If anybody in the area has some, I'd love to get some larger ones. :fun2:

Palythoa grandis it is. Is that an aiptasia I see between the polyps? I wouldn't open either if there was an aiptasia waiting to sting every time I did.

I'm pretty sure it's just a clump of green algae. There's not a type of aiptasia that looks like green algae is there? I guess I'd better make sure since I'm new to this.

Hard to tell from the pic because the foreground is out of focus a bit. Aiptasia won't be green but majanos could be (although, from the pic, it looks more like aiptasia to me).

You're keeping a lot of softies. Do you also run carbon?

Dave

I'll try and look into the majanos, but this stuff looks like algae to me. Maybe I'll get a better pic. The paly seems to be opening up a little today. It's just got 4 polyps, and one is 3/4 open and one is 1/2 open, so maybe they're going to be ok.

I don't run any carbon at all. What is the advantage? What, specifically, is it that I'd need to remove from the water with it, and is it any more important with soft corals than others?
