I finally figured out how to use my girlfriends digital camera.... well... kinda. Just figure i'd share a few pics since i enjoy looking at everyone elses tank so much. My tank is still very young, but i really enjoy it and it wouldnt have been possible without this site... so thanks to all. Here we go...

Here is an actinic morning shot.... must have move when i shot this one... a little blurred.

Thats all for now... hope i didnt screw this up.... this post was as much an experiment as my first sump design.... just hope the results are better!! Feedback...comments... criticism.... all is welcome.[IMG]

One last pic with flash... gives a little better look at rock and cave structures.

Looks good. Nice eel and trigger. The angel is cool too.

On your last pic I think you have two and two [ /IMG]

What size ASM skimmer is that?

I see you did the gate valve mod...nice.

Thanks... its an ASM g2... i just got done doing the gate valve and recirc mod to it.... what a difference. I built the sump and everything has been up and running about a week now (the new sump.... not the tank.... tanks been up about 3 1/2 months). Anyone whos out there "on the fence" about drilling 1 3/4" holes into a $200+ skimmer... i can definitely say its worth it.

With the last pic... i kept getting a message saying that i couldnt post another pic. Oh well. When i get the time i was thinking about trying to get some action shots of the zebra tearing up some clam. Maybe on my next day off.

The G-2 is what I have on my 70 gallon FO tank.

I haven't done either mod yet myself. I don't think I'm doing the recirc mod. I'm looking locally for a 1 1/4 PVC gate valve. If I find one I'll look for the Loc Ness Monster too before my luck runs out.

aquaman..... lol, i know what you mean about finding the gate valve.... best of luck finding one locally. I had to order mine from aquaticeco.com. Ordered the uniseals i needed to do the recirc mod too. Pretty good prices. If you ever decide to do the recirc i will warn you that if you feed the sump directly from the overflow it is a real pain in the butt to get everything dialed in right. Really kicks an already great skimmer up a notch though.

Andrew.... thanks... i think i have rearranged those rocks more times than i can remember to try and get them to a point were i like them. Gotta give the better half a little credit for that too. She helped until she got sick of me moving stuff a 1/2" and asking her if it looked different.

Mr Personality is the best description of a Niger...mine has the craziest personality! I someone walks up to the tank he immediately swims up like he's saying "look at me and nobody else" then it's like he struts around the tank! (must be a male)lol!

How big is the eel? He looks pretty big.

Sweetfawn.... you pegged the trig right on. He is quite the show-man when i have company over. As for the zebra... he's roughly 2' long, but his girth makes him look larger (he's quite a fatboy). He greets me every morning when i get home from work by popping out of his PVC home and begging for food. Though i love them all, he is probably my favorite specimen. Kinda like having a zebra striped saltwater "dog."

Is that a zebra eel...I bought at the fish store it said zebra eel but his nose is alot pointier not blunt like that one I'll try and get pics but it looks nothing like that I dont what the hell I got...

jcopp24... the pictures it took really dont show it well.... but my reef structure has a lot of baseball and softball size wholes for him to slink through. In the picture shown above he was hunting my peppermint shrimp, one of his favorite pastimes... only thing is the shrimp are big enough that when he gets too close they charge him and attack his nose!!

Chaotic...thanks, its my first salt tank and i really did a lot of looking on this site for ideas. So far its really been a lot of fun.

Golden Samurai.... are you sure that you didnt get a banded moray [echidna polyzona]? They look a great deal like juvenile zebras..... but are a lot smaller, thinner, and have thicker bands. They are a great moray .... i was going to get one myself but when i saw this zebra i knew i had to have him! What LFS did you get him from? Did they list a scientific name for him, or did they just say it was a zebra moray? Zebras have one of the more blunt noses of all the morays.... so if your guy has a pointier nose he might be a banded. Can you post a pic? Im pretty familiar with both and might be able to help you out with identifying him.

Golden Samurai.... WHAT YOU HAVE IS NOT A ZEBRA!!!! The picture that you posted a link to is a Tesselate or Honeycomb Moray [Gymnothorax Favagineous]!!!! They are one of the most volitile of the morays and are an appex predator of the ocean. They can reach over 5' and max out at girth larger than a magnum wine bottle! In ancient roman times that particular breed of eel was used to torture prisoners of the empire. The subject would be emursed into a pool up to the neck and hungry tesselates and green morays would bite huge chunks of flesh out of the victim (just a little moray history!).

If they sold you a tessy and called it a zebra they really dont know what the hell they are talking about! How much did you pay for him? Tessy's are quite expensive. Only downside is that that guy will outgrow your tank easily within a year. They are big eaters and grow fast. Usually a tank size of 200g + is recommended for them. Please post a pic of yours so we can be sure.

Harley Dude.... thanks for the compliment. As for the eel he is currently about 2' and about as thick as my wrist. The pictures are up close so he appears a little larger than he really is. The pvc holes that he is coming out of are 2 1/2" to put things into perspective. BUT when he does get a little bigger he will be upgraded to my parents 300g reef.... his reservation has already been made. That is if i cant upgrade by this summer. I have been kicking around the idea of a 280g. We'll see. Either way there is no way i could ever give him up!:)
