Pictures - 800 gallon reef - 7+ years in operation

HCRK:

Thank you for your informative updates. I appreciate your systematic and logical approach to this hobby's many obstacles. Furthermore, your patience with some of the irascible RC"kids", with haste to pass judgement on your motives, is exemplary.

well he's not in the USA, i wondered if anyone picked up on that? it doesn't seem like they did, as many people have asked to tour the tank.

that newspaper article posted spelled "colors" "colours" in the picture caption, and if it was a local paper, it's either Britain, Austrailia, or one of the colonies (New Zealand, etc). it's no wonder he doesn't post a lot... also, i doubt we'll be seeing any new pictures, behind the scenes or otherwise, or seeing this tank as TOTM. i'm not flaming, just a feeling.

Hcrk, or anyone else that may have caught it... Can you tell me about the closed loop I read about the pumps, but where is the intake for the CL, and where are the returns? I haven't seen a pic yet with a pipe sticking out of it other than the overflows... In short can you give some additional info on how you have the CL setup?

While the florida wild live rock industry is shut down aquacultured live rock isstill around. Tampabaysaltwater has a shop where you can hand select if I am not mistaken.

Also, I think it would be helpful to the wrold if you started a thread on getting classes oif children to come in and see large reef tanks, It is an Idea that occured to me quite a while ago and I haven't really figured out a good way to aproatch educational institutions. This is however a mute point because I'm still on the nanoscale.

Edit: Also, you say that fish just seem to disappear in your tank, could this perhaps be because of the large anemone that I think I saw in a picture on page one oh so many hours ago? It seems to me that there should be a large maroon clown or another agressive species to keep other fish well away from a vary unhappy demise.

WOW!!!!!!!! The bar is set high.... I am shooting for something just as wonderful as this. I only hope to get close.

Awsome bar. Awsome Tank. I'll tell you what, don't ever invite me over cause I'd be crown drunk and mesmerized and probably wouldn't leave, EVER. That is truley amazing. Cheers

Hcrk, Not only is the scale of the tank simply incredible but you seem to have a wonderfully creative sense of design and balance. The tank, the bar, your garden, and the hallway outside your basement are all beautiful and thoughtful in their layout and execution. I doubt even a professional designer could come up with anything done better. I also like that you take the simplified approach to reefkeeping focusing on creating natural harmony rather than technological advancement. Thank you for the lessons and inspiration! Please update us as your schedule permits. :)

When I win the lotto, can I pay you to come and design me the 5000 gallon tank inside the bar at a new house? :D

now i will look at my 10 gallon with disapointment. one thing comes to my mind about my 10 gallon after reading though this thread, "upgrade"

those are great pictures! how old is that little patch of yellow polyps? im guessing 4-5 months?

almost forgot to ask, what kind of critters do you have in the tank? mysis shrimp? miniture brittle starfish? what kind of pods?

This is a given but my favorite part of this thread is the pics. You have access to a level of stress relief with that tank that would equal heaven for me. The peace and tranquility in my 72 gallon has me asleep within minutes.

My second favorite part of this thread is the fact that so many new members were compelled to make their very first post a compliment to your ecosystem. I lost track of how many "Welcomes" I came across while reading. The children who see your tank in person truely have seen something precious and I'm sure that will have a lasting effect.

My question for you is this: What was your inspiration?

Kudos to you for sharing your slice of the ocean with us and for being an inspiration to people of all ages.
