Pictures - 800 gallon reef - 7+ years in operation

Some how I just found this thread yesterday. I too am awed by your whole setup. I would just like to say too, that you have given me some new things to think about in revising my 125. Keep up the good work and I hope to see some new pics soon.

Hello there

As the others have already stated. What a beautiful tank. My girlfriend and I have a 96 gallon salt water live rock tank and are really enjoying it. We hope to get a 265 gallon this year if all goes well.

Can I ask a few questions..
How many fish are in the tank?
Different species?
Do you have to feed them anymore or is it self sustaining now?
What are the dimensions of the tank?
We were thinking you should stand beside the tank in one of the pics so we can really get an idea of the size. Maybe a wide angle lens might help as well.

Great job, you must really be enjoying it. I also scuba dive and your tank is as close to a reef that most people will get.

I have to say this, is one of the most beautiful tanks I have ever seen!!! It's nice to see someone with a short sand bed have success over many years. I'm truly amazed!!

I am currently planning a 4,000 gallon tank where you can go down stairs to get a full view. But this isint gonna happen for a while. Will definately post here to show everyone!

Love this tank!

Hello to all!!

Stopped by for the first time in many months and noticed that it has been over three years since my very first posting on this thread. I believe that it has also been over a year since my last posting.
Time certainly does go by so very quickly....

My aquariums are, of course, still up and running.,,,,in fact, my 800 gallon recently celebrated an 11th birthday.

Unfortunately, given my very hectic schedule, I have not been able to devote very much time to my aquariums. Fortunately, however, they just seem to be running reasonably well without any significant intervention on my part.

I assume that the long term stability results from the fact that my marine ecosystems are largely in a state of equalibrium.

With a very few exceptions the vast majority of the fish are doing well. Sadly, over time, a few of our inhabitants have disappeared. These have been replaced by several additions.

On the coral front, I lost a number of hard corals quite some time ago. By and large, I have not replaced these and the vacant spaces have been filled by other inhabitants.

On the equipment front, The major change involved my skimmers. Specifically, about 1 1/2 years ago, I replaced my triple skimmer with 1 very large custom fabricated one.

As I recently acquired a new camcorder, I thought that it may be of interest that I formulate and post a "video" of the 800.... in high definition, if at all practicable.

Can anyone suggest a good (and uncomplicated) vehicle for posting a large video file on the net?

As my family will shortly be leaving for an extended vacation (one of my children will be getting married in Hawaii in July), I will not be able to attend to a video of my 800 gallon until my return. However, if there is an uncomplicated video posting vehicle available, I will make every effort to put a short video together and post it....either in mid August or in early September.

Finally, I should like to apologise for my tardiness in posting. There are substantial ongoing demands on my time and it is always a struggle to make time available for interest based matters such as this.

:)

Great to hear all is well. I always wonder about your tank thanks for the update. Good luck and looking forward to the video.

Great to hear the update for a great inspirational system.
If there is not a simple way for posting a High Definition Video, maybe a DVD could be made available to be purchased via some means? Reef Central or other?? Put me on the purchaser's list!
