Pictures - 800 gallon reef - 7+ years in operation

I don't even have a tank yet, and this whole setup sets the bar high. It took me half the day on and off to read this thread! That is an amazing tank though...just beautiful. I have much to learn before I even attempt anything like that!
Very, very nice work!

Man, when he says extended vacation he means it...I would really be interested in more info on the sandbed, like what kinds of creatures he is using to keep it up.

Also, I might be able to host his video...

Here is my usage on my domain:

Status: Setup
Disk Space: 3.06 MB of 5000.00 MB (0.06%)
Bandwidth: 13.34 MB of 250000.00 MB (0.01%)

would that do it? or would I end up paying for more bandwidth?

Wow hcrk thanks for sharing:eek2:

biowerks, I think he did explain that pistol shrimps and fire worms work 24-7 to keep up his sand bed.

This tank is amazing. Jaw droping. This is one of he best tanks i have ever seen in my time of this hobby probably the best

Pistol shrimp and fireworms? That seems a bit weird to me... fireworms eat coral and there must be a billion pistol shrimp.

There are "fireworms"/aka/"bristleworms" that are detrivores and are a good thing to have in the tank :D

I was under the impression that they were all in the family polychaete and fireworms were the ones that have gills between each row of bristles and that they eat coral and bristle worms were just detrivores.

That's one of the problems we all run into when using "common names" :D One common name could make up several species, and sometimes whole genra.

To All Those Who May Still Be Interested,

As this thread was started on May 17, 2004, I expect that there are many that would like to see some pictures of my aquarium as it has now been in continuous operation for almost 12 years.

Accordingly, I intend to take and post pictures on or before the anniversary date.

I'll also try to respond to any of your questions.

I subscribed to this great thread years ago, and let me be the first to welcome your ghost back! of course we want pics!

Great Joy to have you back hcrk. Your Art piece is an inspiration to many Reefers.
What have you changed? What advice that you would do different if you were to advise your "Shadow" ?
