Pictures of Bomber's barebottom SPS tank and related equipment

Wow, the water is amazing clear. That has got to be the cleanest looking tank I've ever seen. I think the protein skimmer in the photograph agrees!

it looks totally unnatural without sand in it.

it's nicer than my tank, but i just don't like that look at all.

no offense of course. i just wonder why you don't put a thin layer of sand down there for aesthetics?

No Adam, as Jerel would say: "its a weed!" ROTFL

Jeesh Jerel, those snails in there look like they have nothing to do. What type of blenny is that?

Thanks for the pics Greg.

BOOMER, uggg BOMBER...

What is the eggcrate in the sump for?

Looks great, those day light pics are a lot better then those Space (dark) picks....

Good job!!!

Shane,

The tanks got a glass brace around the bottom, so the Starboard is recessed into it. I'm going to look into those lights - Thanks! You know I know diddly about equipment and brands.

what do you do for Calcium/Alk replentishing on this system?
What's you opinion on that blue chromis?

Mark :)
I use calcium chloride and baking soda.
Blue chromis are real delicate when small, when big they are tough as nails. I've only had this guy by himself, they tend to fight each other but nothing else.

LOL now you're feeling sorry for the snails! ;) They have plenty to do.
Don't have a clue on the blenny yet. Angus caught it in the Bahamas and so far it has no name.

I slows the flow down just enough for some of the heavier detritus to settle.

Clean and clean is good for SPS. These guys are growing over a inch a month.

Doug, finally a picture so I can show you that skimmer!

Did you ever outline all the names of your critters on a thread?

I'd love an intro to all of them - every now and then I see one referred to by name, but without the fish/coral type associated I'm lost :D

And I do love that they're all named, for some reason I want to name mine and have yet to ...

Mark I'll get you a list of names in the morning, and yes, they are all named. LOL
I'll give you one now. The big old long spine urchin is Doug. :)

Thanks ICF :)

The lights are on for two hours cause that's all they need.

Nek you don't know the half of it, Greg was going to title it >

Pictures of Jerel's Equipment :eek2:

I think the tank looks awesome!! It is wonderfully unique. I think a comment in a different thread was Frank Lloyd Wright + Reef = Starboard reef.

But I did not see the Queen Angel?? Was she just hiding or did she have to go back to the ocean?

Thanks for sharing!
Connie

For some strange reason I'm sitting here chuckling to myself. But I share Jerel's position on DSB's so I think he'll understand :)

Any chance you can really turn this hobby on it's ear and run that puppy skimmerless? I'd be ROTFLMAO if you could find a way to pull that one off. Think of the fun that would be had.

Seriously though, a mighty fine job working outside the "box".
I was another that actually thought I was looking at a tank without water in it. It looks so unbelievably clear in there that it's hard to believe my eyes.

No. BB tanks work on the principle of "remove the waste before it breaks down". Without a large enough - well operating skimmer, BB will have problems with nitrate and phosphates. The whole point is to not keep poop as a pet.
