Pictures on Reef Central

I need some help. I've seen some really beautiful pics posted on reef central. Clear and large for the most part. However, using the upload feature they look just terrible. 125k is a tiny piece of a thing that resembles a reef tank. I didn't buy a gizillon megapixl camera to convert the picture to 125k.

After reading some, my other option is finding a site to host? Is this true? Every picture I see is hosted somewhere else? There has to be an easy way that i'm missing?
Thanks!

Most people do have a website or image hosting site- it's really not that much trouble once you get the hang of it. Sorry but I don't know of an easier way.

you should be able to compress even large images down to under 150kb without a major loss in image quality even while retaining fairly large dimensions. Having said that, posting images larger than 800x600 may require a significant number of users to 'scroll' to view the image, thus potentially degrading the impact of the shot.

If they are already posted on RC, why don't you just provide a link? if they are not your shots, I wouldn't re-post them without the owners permission anyway.

Once you resize a pic to 800x600 saving it with a lower quality to give you a <150 KB file should still give you a good result.
Below image is 1000x800 saved at lower resolution to get a 152KB file. I still find it a very good quality image. The whole issueis to resize before your save

Sounds like you need a Photobucket account.

1. Get Photobucket account
2. Upload photos to Photobucket
3. Copy IMG Code of desired image
4. Paste IMG Code of the image into a thread on RC

Easy Peasy. :)
