Pimafix as a zoa dip

last nite at the store, I had a large colony of blue and red ringed zoas that had been under attack for a couple weeks. first it was spiders, then nudis, and now fungal infections. the stolons had slowly become covered with green film algae and fungas was spreading. Instead of tossing the rock, which was an option, I tried a dip in FW Pimafix. I used three capfuls in one gallon of tank water. I dipped for about 15 minutes, and scrubbed gently, but aggressively, with a toothbrush to remove as much algae and fungus. I haven't seen the colony yet today, but I have high hopes that it will work.
Has anyone else tried this before?

I called over to the store, and apparently it is showing polyps today. No skirts, but the oral disk is starting to become visible.:D
I would love someone else to try this on some zoas that are beyond all other treatments. If this works, it could be a cure for all the fungus' that come in on our zoas

I've used MelaFix and PimaFix on my FW tanks for years, been too scared to use it on the reef though. Next time I have Pox I'll try a MelaFix dip and for fungus PimaFix.

Melafix and Pimafix IMO are not strong enough for Saltwater, sounds like an interesting idea...

Next time try Erythromycin Tablets it does the same thing but at a stronger dose. They attack the same fungus`, eye cloud, tail rot, and so on... It maybe as simple as that for helping cure the fungus...

Good Luck

My problem is I can't dip--all my zoas are growing right onto large rocks. I was looking for something I could safely dose the whole tank with. Hence, the vitamin C thread...

I tried something like that on 1 frag of devils eyes. the frag was too gone, just came of the rocks as I tried to brush with a supersoft toothbrush.. sux

I saw the colony last night. Just as I described earlier, a few full polyps out, and many faces showing, not too many skirts yet..

API, now makes a SW melafix.
The SW melafix is very good. It actually kills ick in reef tanks. One of the managers tried it on his 65g zoa tank and after 11 days, the ick was gone, and the fish were clean.
I knew the pimafix was less strong in SW which is why I used such a heavy dose.

Just wondering if they know that ICH has a 6week life cycle where its on the fish, then cyst drops to the sand , burries then produces more cyst. Only time you can get them is really when they're on the fish and not really burried in their scales or body. ( which FW dip and meds are effective )... so no fish in the tank for 6weeks is the best as the cyst burst to new ich and no fish in the tank breaks their life cycle.. also hypo salinity treatment works for ich.

So was the meds used in that zoa tank primarly used for the zoa and the fish with ich benifited or was it for the fish first then the zoas benefited.?

thats the thing, you wouldnt expect it to. He was tipped off by one of the guys who works for API. I dont know the biology of why it works, nor do I have first hand experience, but I trust the guy who told me.

Has anyone tried Julian Sprungs Coral REvive on your sick zoanthids?

This stuff smells like Melafix and Pine Sol. Works great for AEFW and stuns most pods, etc. that come off in dips. It's supposed to be great for LPS, so why not zoanthids?

less than 1/3 of the effected colony opened after treatment. Thats better than a total loss, which was the only other option. :)
