Your husbandry is, lets say lacking. SPS need STABILITY. Dumping 5-6 gallons of R/o into your tank at once is FAR from stable.

You need a daily top off method, OR ATO.

You need to stop adding crap to your tank thats not needed.

You need to perform more then a 7% waterchange per month.

Start there.

Wow, that is a lot of differing opinions. I don't think it has anything to do with auto top off or salinity. Your salinity can't be moving that much with that amount of water. While it may help you physically, I don't think it will make a difference with your sps. I think it is obvious that your tank is too sterile. I would stop the carbon dosing and dirty up the water a bit. Add some fish and feed them. Stop your skimmer for awhile and let some nutrients build up. It may take awhile but that is what I would do.

You are basically running an Ultra Low Nutrient System, same concept as what happens to people running zeovit. Corals will lighten up because they are being starved. To get around this you need to dose amino acids and that will help as well as some form of coral food.

Whether you believe it or not this is the case. You will not get algae or diatom blooms from dosing aminos in the proper amounts.

Ok don't know we're to start so many different opinions. Can someone please define ultra sterile conditions or ULN? I am starting to see a lot of algae growth so does this mean my tank is not sterile? I will post pictures soon,

Sound ridiculous please excuse my frustration but where do I start first PLEASE HELP.

Thats why a system needs a cleanup crew. No, your system is not 100% sterile it produces just enough nutrience to feed the very strongest most resiliant algae. That algae robs your corals of the things its algea needs to color up and look good. A good cleanup crew with a stock large enough to support it will keep your unwanted algae at bay while the wanted algaes thrive. Once that balance is established, THEN you can start dosing to eliminate all unused nutrients in the water. An ultra low nutrient system isn't devoid of all nutrients. It is in such fine balance that once the system absorbse what it needs to thrive there is nothing left to detect in the water.

Wow I never looked at it like that before and it makes so much sense. I will try that, so I think I need to add fish and I don't know what to get. I really don't like tangs but would like a Glenna that's reef safe any suggestions? Also I would like a schooling fish any recommendations?
Thanks

I think people MAY be focusing on the wrong thing. I don't blame your husbandry but rather the coral itself. The coral looks maricultured and it is well known that maricultured sps have a high chance of losing color.

Did you buy this Mille as a colony? Or grown from a frag that was raised in captivity?

Try a more hardy aquacultured piece if this is the case. Might cost ya a little more but it'll hold color better and be more predictable.

I bought it as a colony and yes it is maricultured.

One of my favorite fish is one of the simplest AND one of the cheapest. A school of 5 or 6 green chromis would look real good in a tank like yours. A mated pair of clowns with a host later once you got your balance would be good. BUT like everything in this hobby GO SLOW. There are several companies around on the web that offer cleanup crew packages with a good mix to tackle everything. I'm not sure what the policy is for naming actual commercial entities, but I have used several of the companies over the years with good results.
