So I ended it up with a skunk and a true perc..would it be ok if I house them in the same tank?? Even if they don't pair up?? Would they at least get along? Let me know ur experiences. Thank u much

No. Never mix clownfish species in same tank. One of the clownfish will kill the other. My advice is get rid of one and get another of same species.

Thank you ftdelta for the quick response..I was just wondering..maybe someone in this forum had done it before.i have different tanks right now so they r fine..

I have had Multiple clowns in a 60g, they were all placed in the tank at the same time and all were about the same size. I never had any problems with them, maybe I was just lucky, I never witnessed any foul play and they all lived for the 8 months I had them.

8 months is not very long term, almost if not always they will pair off and fight when they mature, usually when they are spawning regularly.
I too would not mix species, other than an occ and a perc.

That will change once a dominant pair is formed. Once that happens, that pair will kill all the other clowns. Don't think for a second you will never see a pair formed. It will happen sooner than you think.

Most of the time problems arise with mixing clowns is when a pair forms. Different species can usually be kept together in singles and may even pair given enough time. Large belligerent females should also not be kept together obviously.

You can mix different species of Clownfish with each other, they won't be have too differently from two Clowns of the same species. They might pair up (and hybridize) or kill each other.

Bad advice.

Breeders do it on a semi regular basis. Even one of the most coveted species (thielli) is believed to be a cross between sandaracinos and ocellaris. Also, leukokranos is believed to be a hybrid as well, with chrysopterus being the dominant species hybridizing with members of the skunk complex. I believe a study was done on the genetics of members of the skunk complex, although I don't have the reference to it, that showed much of the populations studied were anything but pure. It suggested a fair amount of promiscuity between species.

Bottom line is, there is a probable chance pairings like this happen in the wild. Therefore, recreating this in a home aquarium is not out of the realm of possibility. As always proper planning and observation will be key.

This, basically. It's also how we get some of the pretty cool Clowns out there. :) I personally like the Occ x Maroon. :)

I think there might be some confusion going on here are we talking about 1 percula and 1 pink skunk or multiples of both or either species?

Ok, I don't see too much of a problem then. As stated above, breeders do this from time to time to come up with new varieties.

Correct!! We are talking about 1 percula and 1 pink skunk housed togheter in the same tank..I ended up with 1 of each since a carpet anemone ate them both..:( and the percula was a grade A Ora perc.

Quite hard decision for owner.
We know both end scenarios.
Question is what is the chance they become pair and if there is anything what we can do to help accomplish this.
For example if introducing anemone for them will help to establish pair during competing for it or it will just set them apart on path becoming 2 females.

I had a Maroon and an Akallopisos Skunk live together for a while then eventually paired up and never left each other's side. Don't think it's any more complicated than putting them together really. :P
