pink tip question

I recently added a pink tip anemone to my tank. its about 4 inches in diameter. I put the thing in the tank and all seemed well for the last few days. all of a sudden I walked in the room and noticed that the pink tip was gone! it looks like it pulled itself into its foot, is that possible? the foot is in good shape, so I dont think it was bothered by anything. all the parameters in the tank are good. any ideas would be helpfull.
