PinkBar & Leopard Wrasse

I just received your Divers Den Pinkbar Gobi w pistol. What a beauty. They are looking great! He's kinda hanging out with his nose out. A little nervous I suppose. He wouldn't eat today though. I fed rinsed frozen brine w Beta Glucan & Selcon, cyclops, a couple of pellets, & Live Baby brine & live pods. That makes me a little nervous. I could use some reassurance.

My Leopard Wrasse will be arriving on Thursday (curious wormfish out of stock). I plan on the same food mixture for him/her. Can you give me some suggestions on acclimation & food. I would think that anything would go for that food mixture!

Also, this is coming from a wholesaler in LA, how long are they quarantined for? Are they dewormed? Are they eating before shipped?

Also, the wrasse is CN-80371 SW - Leopard Wrasse - (Sri Lanka) - Small . Can you tell me anything about it? differences between places listed on your site?

I have a 55 gallon Reef, 80 pounds of LR, G-2, 30 gallon sump with fuge, additional hangon fuge, 2 x Tunze 6000, w 7095, Acros, Montis, Clams, Turbinaria, 2 false percs, 2 Dragonface pipefish (over 2 years), 1 Yasha Hase Goby w Pistol Shrimp, Gramma & now the above.
Thanks!
Ralph

Ralph,

Thank you for your post. We are happy to hear that the Pinkbar Goby and its pistol shrimp arrived looking well. It is not uncommon for new fish, especially shy fish such as gobies, to not eat for a couple of days after shipping. This will allow them to become more accustomed to their new surroundings. Adding a bit of garlic extract to the food before feeding may also help entice him to eat.

All fish that are shipped from our facility in California are quarantined for as long as necessary to ensure that they are eating and show no signs of any health problems at the time of shipping. We would recommend doing a slow drip acclimation with the Leopard Wrasse when it is received and to have plenty of copepods available for when he is comfortable enough in his new home to eat.

The differences in price between Leopard Wrasse collected in Sri Lanka, Figi, and the Cook Islands is a reflection of the difficulty of receiving the wrasse from that area. There has been no proven health, coloration or behavioral differences observed between the Leopard Wrasse in these areas.

My Pinkbar Gobi is doing fine tonight. He ate some, so that's cool. He moved in the front 1/2 under the rocks where my Yasha is. That's kinda weird. But fine.

So I put my leopard in Tank (after 45 minute acclimation),Macropharyngodon meleagris just hangs out on sand for 10 seconds, then dives in sand at the speed of light. How do I stimulate feeding response? It's buried. Of course, I will be feeding my other fish in about an hour or so, but still, I don't know when she'll come out. I have a bazillion pods though.

Is their an "expert" on Leopard Wrasses? anywhere?

Mysterybox,

Thank you for your inquiry. The Leopard Wrasse is listed as an expert only fish and it may take a few days for it to adjust to its new surroundings and begin to eat. We recommend using live saltwater feeder shrimp to entice this fish to eat. Once it starts eating their diet should be supplemented with live feeder shrimp, mussel meat, and black worms. We also recommend soaking any fresh or frozen food in Garlic Extreme. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns.

would baby live brine be good? Also, mussels, I assume chopped or in shell. On blackworms, live or frozen? What species? Where is a good source to get them? Tubifex ok?

Ralph,

Thank you for your post. Live Brine Shrimp is a very good way to entice the initial feeding response. Chopped mussels are preferred when the fish starts eating; however any kind will work, as will any species of blackworms (which are in the Tubifex family).

So 26.5 hours later, this little guy just starts hanging out! I fed him live brine, baby brine, cylops, pods, (whatever I can throw at 'em), and he is eating just fine. I turned my Tunze's down a bit (I had them off 2 times today for at least 1 hour or 2), because he seemed a little overwhelmed by them.

Anyway, so far, so good!

4 weeks later, and the little guy is doing great! It's actually hanging out with my pair of false percs!?!
Ok, she's eating cyclopeeze and some tubifex. Possobably some other stuff in my mix. I am still feeding live brine every evening. It appears to have grown a hair. At what point should I discontinue live brine? It has not taken to mussel meat yet either.
Thanks!

Mysterybox,

Thank you for contacting us. We are glad to hear the wrasse has adjusted well to your aquarium. The more you vary a fish’s diet the healthier the fish will be. You can cut down to feeding the live brine to once a week as long as the fish continues to eat the Cylcopeeze and tubifex.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.
