Here is a picture of my pink tail trigger. This fish was placed into a 29 gallon quarantine upon purchase. When I arrived home I noticed that is had a small "nick" on it's mouth and it looked slightly swollen. I monitored it and it looked as though it was some type of wound that was healing. The fish was eating well. Several days later, ick developed. I used hypo @ 1.009 for the recommended length and the ick cleared. During this time the mouth wound got larger and I could begin seeing a swollen area on the inner portion of the mouth get larger. It continued to get a little bigger and I started to notice that the mouth was swelling on the outside as well (on the side of the problem).
It seems to have stopped getting larger now. The fish is still eating well, but I have to give it smaller pieces of food. You can see the faded parts on the trigger where the ick was present.
He is starting to re-gain color in the areas where the ick was present, there has been now new spots since I raised salinity back to 1.022 (been three weeks). All water param's in the quaratine are stable. Ph 8.3, Nitrite and Ammonia 0, Nitrate barely detectable, temp 78-79.
The ick issue is respoved, but I am now concerned about this mouth wound/sore? I am not sure how to treat this. Sorry for the bad pic, but it was the best shot I could get of the sore/wound? Any help would be appreciated. The fish is still eating well, so I feel good about getting this fish healthy again. He will eventually go in the 125.

Could this be a bacterial type infection. If you look at the pic you can see the sweliing on the right hand side of the inner-mouth. Anybody have any ideas? The fish is still eating well, but it's mouth looks the same.

Does anyone have any other suggestions rather than garlic. I think I am way past that point. The fish is eating well and looks good. I would certainly like to help him out. Any guesses?

Can you see inside of the mouth? Look for swelling or a growth. At this point I can only suggest using a good antibiotic and adding some Beta glucan to the food to enhance immune function.
Maracyn-Two, Nitrofurazone and Furanase are my three favorites. You could use Foucs which is a polymer containing nitrofurazone. You can add some Maracyn-two powder to the Focus and feed it to the fish. You put the polymer on food.

I can see inside as it is partially swollen to the pont that is stays open on the infected side. It seemd like a reddish colored lump. I truly appreciate your help. He is eating well and regaining color after his batlle with ich. I will keep you psted on the results. I did not want to treat him until I had a better idea of the most approapite treatment. He has had this problem for about 20 days. It is not getting worse, and not getting better, but he is still eating like a pig. Thanks you again, I apprecaite all your help. You helped me believe I can have an ich free tank. I am at 29 days fallow and counting. I can't wait to get this little guy fixed and back in my main tank.

WantaBeReefer,
How is Trigger doing?

I have a Powder Brown Tang with a similar condition. However, I think the growth on mine is on the white side, and I can't see any red. Other than that it sounds very similar (mine eats well and has good color).

This happend after I neted the fish for a fresh water dip. So I'm pretty sure it is a bacterial infection.

I'm treating mine with an antibiotic (400mg of Erythromycin on a 20G Hospital tank). I'm on my 2nd day of treatment and haven't seen improvement.

Sounds like a bacteria infection for sure, what about metaflex or whatever its called. It always works good for bacteria infections and is easy to dose.
