Here is a picture of my pink tail trigger. This fish was placed into a 29 gallon quarantine upon purchase. When I arrived home I noticed that is had a small "nick" on it's mouth and it looked slightly swollen. I monitored it and it looked as though it was some type of wound that was healing. The fish was eating well. Several days later, ick developed. I used hypo @ 1.009 for the recommended length and the ick cleared. During this time the mouth wound got larger and I could begin seeing a swollen area on the inner portion of the mouth get larger. It continued to get a little bigger and I started to notice that the mouth was swelling on the outside as well (on the side of the problem).
It seems to have stopped getting larger now. The fish is still eating well, but I have to give it smaller pieces of food. You can see the faded parts on the trigger where the ick was present.
He is starting to re-gain color in the areas where the ick was present, there has been now new spots since I raised salinity back to 1.022 (been three weeks). All water param's in the quaratine are stable. Ph 8.3, Nitrite and Ammonia 0, Nitrate barely detectable, temp 78-79.
The ick issue is respoved, but I am now concerned about this mouth wound/sore? I am not sure how to treat this. Sorry for the bad pic, but it was the best shot I could get of the sore/wound? Any help would be appreciated. The fish is still eating well, so I feel good about getting this fish healthy again. He will eventually go in the 125.
