Pipe fish at my local fish store

i was at one of the stores in my area and they had some pipe fish. nothing to fancy or colorful but still nice. when i asked if they ate frozen foods they told me that they had tried but only live brine seems to work.

so here is my question. i have a seahorse tank with seahorses that eat frozen foods. and i've wanted to add a pipe fish to the tank. do the pipe fish that are sold usually eat only live foods or should they be like seahorses that you buy from draco or seahorse.org that already eat frozen foods.

on dr forters site they sell pipe fish and i've wanted to order but for the possiblity of only eating live foods scares me. can you guys let me know what to expect with a pipe fish.

most pipes are WC, there are some, I heard, CB, but dont know whom ar where they are sold

any way most pipes will only eat live food, but just like horses , you can train them to eat frozen, all of mine do, just takes time and LOTS of pacients

also, there are some people whom will not mix pipes with horses, they strongly advice agains it, but I do, so my experience, and tank is unique

good luck

hey jose thanks for the info. in order to train the pipe fish do i combine live and frozen...and just slowly increase the frozen part?

I've had good luck getting northern pipefish (atlantic) to eat cyclopeze and frozen mysis. Generally need live pods, fresh hatched brine shrimp or live adult brine shrimp to get them started though. But that said, I usually get them eating the frozen stuff within a week ;)

I've had results similar to Bill with training pipefish to frozen. In my experience they take to it pretty quickly, especially the cyclopeeze. Now they all are the first ones to the mysis in the seahorse tanks.
