Pipe fish in reef

Nope...flagfins do quite well in reef settings, as do DF's. IMHO, flagfins are much easier to keep, as they don't have small snouts like the DF's. Also, flagfins will often engage in grooming behaviors. I had a pair of Jann's for several years that would hang out their shingle when they were in the mood (a specialized swimming motion) and the other fish would line up to be groomed.
 
I have a Blue Stripe in my reef and he does great. Keeps to a certain area and I can always find hin underneath the ledge. Then when the main lights go off he creeps out and explores.
 
Almost two years now with my dragon-faced pipefish. SPS reef with a couple softies and a large LTA. The pipe will not eat anything I put in the tank but stays healthy and hunting. I have an old and well established tank.
 
I too have had a blue stripe about six months now, fat and happy. He was in a BB 40 for about five months with coral frags and has been in a 100 gal reef now for a month with 2 mp40 run about 50 percent on reef crest mode. Still fat and happy want to get him a female!
 
I have mine with a fairy wrasse, possum wrasse, emperor, and majestic, He actually tries to clean the angel. None of them bother him or pay much attention to him.
 
I have a blue stripe in a 40" reef set up with a pair of common clowns, a possum wrasse, three zebra dartfish, a psychaedelic mandarin, Wheelers prawn goby and a bi-colour blenny. None of the other fish bother him at all.

The high flow in the reef tank doesn't bother the pipe fish? I wanted to keep one or 2 also in my 65 but was told that the high flow would be bad for them? I have 2 nano koralias. One 250gph and the other 425gph. And I also have 2 other koralias around 1000gph.

maybe not for all pipes, but the blue stripe I have swims all over the place in the current. I keep my Mp40s at 50% reef crest. I think that is plenty of flow. Every once in a while I will do a wave and run for ten mins or so with 100% throttle.

Ditto, mine does exactly the same. During the day under the same over hang then comes out & wonders around the tank during actinics only & after the lights go off.

When I first introduced 2 banded pipe fish, the Blue Stripe use to come out during the day and swims with them (schooling ??). The Blue Stipe no longer comes out during the day as the 2 Banded have started to constantly chase each other & fight (I think). High flow does not appear to bother our 2 Banded & 1 Blue Stipe Pipe fish. We have 1X Tunze 6065 (1,717 gph), 2X Tunze 6055 (both set to low 396 gph), 1X Tunze 6025 (739 gph), 2 X Hydor Pic Evo 300 (300 gph), 1X Maxi-Jet 1200 (295 gph). BUT there are a lot of nooks and crannies. The tank is supper over stocked with corals & rock, see pic, so there are many dead spots with lots of places to rest.
 
My DF pipefish is in a SPS reef with lots of flow but also lots of rock, caves, and hiding spots. No other fish ever pays any attention to it. Even my BT tang, who is aggresive with every other fish in the tank, completely ignores the pipe. I run my tank at 78-80 degrees.
 
I have been wanting to put my Pipefish in the DT but always worried that my huge blenny would eat him. I have him in a make shift sump that I had to turn into a tank for him since it would not fit underneath my tank. I keep the water 79ish but not sure which pipefish he is got him in Galveston Texas waters.
 
I've been thinking about adding a pipe fish to my 40 Breeder Right now its low flow 2x 6015's. They are on one side of the tank causing a circular motion around the tank, I have a fuge that contains about 10 Gallons and I plan on waiting 6-12 months until its well populated with pods.

My fish at the moment are...

1x Carpenters Flasher Wrasse(will he compete with pods)?
1x 1" Blue Hippo Tang

I also plan on adding some small Gobys. and maybe a Royal Gramma.

Can I pull it off?

Also what would you say are the easiest PipeFish?
