Pipe Organ ?

I am planning to get a 3" colony next week, and was wondering about the ideal placement for both light and flow. I know they can be somewhat difficult so any additional tips about your own experience would be appreciated. I suppose they are really a softie, but I've seen them referred to as LPS as well.

I think they fall into the softie category more so than LPS, but...

I have three different pipe organs. A large polyped neon green, a large polyped brown, and a small polyped green (not neon like the larger one). All three have done great in the upper section of my water column (high light and high flow) and in the lower sections (lower light and lower flow). I run 250W DE 10K's with VHO's on my main display. I have had each of them in a low flow low light (PC's) frag tank, and they seem to do equally as good. I've not had any problems with them at all in any location...

gflat65,

Thank You! I have read that they are a pretty fast grower. Are they difficult to frag? Also, do you feed yours? If so what and how often?

I got a small frag of Pipe Organ last year and put it on the sand in my tank. It quickly spread to the ajacent rock and I have since given away the original piece. I have read that they are somewhat difficult but mine has been really easy. I have never seen it eat. I have it "blocked in" by mushrooms so it won't take over the entire rock.

They are pretty easy to frag. About two polyps broke off when I got it and they grew fine and even multiplied but later were killed by my goby burying them.

Sorry, I must have missed the post several weeks ago...

I don't do any feeding. I have been fragging with a razor blade, but that isn't the easiest. I'm about to frag a few more 1-2" pieces and plan to use a paint scrapper and a hammer. That should result in crushing fewer polyps and give me a fairly clean edge.

gearqueer,

It depends on the bicolor. My wife has one in her tank with a massive pipe organ, and it doesn't nip at all. It does nip other corals, though. Some don't have any problems with their bicolors...
