I've been doing a lot of reading and I have a species only tank set up for pipefish. I have chaeto and mangroves growing but I do not think it will support pipefish with copepods long term. I am not picky on species but I am looking to choose between:
-banded pipefish
-bluestripe
-dragonface
-jannss
-multibanded
I really like any of them but of course the hardier the better.
Anyway I have read that they only will eat small live foods on many occasions such as copepods or small brine shrimp. Obviously they might be trained to eat frozen with some work. What do you all think about getting them to eat the tiny rods food or arctic pods? Although this has been discussed multiple times, do any of the above species tend to be better for a nano aquarium?

One of my banded pipefish goes after frozen mysis no problem. Just watched him down a bunch off the tank bottom. The other one just swims around excitedly, but has not caught on yet. Neither go after live bbs or frozen bbs. Both like to suck live copepods of the glass, tank bottom and rocks. They both seem pretty hardy. Just my experience so far with the banded pipes.

Yea ive seen Blue stripe pipes eat bbs but havent studied them very long.

I think im going to order two bluestripes and some nutrimar ova.

Wheres the best place to buy them? Liveaquaria?

i caught a wild pipefish started him out on live brine shrimp then I was growing my own brine shrimp till i ran out and put a bottle of reef pods and tigger pods in his tank. Then I started mixing up frozen mini mysis, frozen rotifiers and frozen cyclop eeze. So I am not sure what he is eatting but he is and getting bigger. Plus i just started to mix in the Spirulina-brine shrimp w/mysis froze made by H2O Life. I have had him since May of last year.

Thanks, Luis. Bluestripes could be appropriate for a nano. I had one in a 10 for some time.

I have two bue stripes that take frozen brine, cyclops and lobster eggs.

Cool so far I have a blue stripe, a tiny carribian unknown pipe, and will start feeding brine and the micro rods food. I may get some nutrimar ova and cyclopeze as well.
