You don't need a seperate tank--they are reef safe & fairly hardy.

I almost forgot this lil fella I saw in Roatan:

American Crested Pipefish. Only the second one I've seen. Cosmocampus brachycephalus. Can be found on page 152 of "Seahorses, pipefish and their relatives" by Rudie Kuiter.

So are you saying I got ahold of something rare?

I'm not really sure. Its possible they're pretty common just misidentified or not identified at all. Many of the native American pipefish are ignored by the hobby due to their drab coloration (even though some aren't), are mis-identified, or just lumped together as common pipefish.

Eklikewhoa, we have collected them occasionally, but just sold them as assorted pipes, not sure how common or rare they are, but unless they were harlequin pipes (the only colorful one we collect regularly) all of them are lumped together.

Do any of you guys keep say dragonface pipes in your reef tank that includes a Vortech? Would that be too dangerous? I am intrested in putting one or two in my 120 sps.

Hi! I'm quite new here at ReefCentral and my english is not so good, but i'll try to type a few words here.

Unfortunately here in Brazil we don't have such colorfull pipefishes, as you have, at our fish stores.

This is the picture of my pipe, if someone knows which specie is this one, i'll be glad :D
