I think Yes not a good idea but I have not researched this much, but I know you can't do a pistol and a cleaner shrimp so I would say that would be the same.
I have a tiger pistol paired with a yellow watchman in my 75g I also have a skunk cleaner, fire, and peppermint shrimp that have not had any problems ever. So i dont know about a harlequin but i would think they would be fine. IMHO
I have a 42 gallon with a pistol shrimp/yasha goby. I have 2 cleaner shrimp in there now with no problems.
But i also would like to know if i can mix a harlequin shrimp in with them. Its the only tank i can even have shrimp in as my big tanks have fish that eat them.
In my 40 I had a pair of harlequin that lived peacefully with pistol/goby combo and a skunk. After two years I got rid of my harlequin because of the feeding requirements was fouling my water more then I would like
probably also compounded by the fact that both like to occupy space near the bottom of the tank, where as most of the time the skunk cleaners tend to be up high, and peppermint shrimp are usually hidden until lights out.
When I had a pistol I couldn't have any other crustaceans in the tank. He killed any type of shrimp or crab there with great quickness and efficiency. On the bright side he got rid of several gorilla crabs that snuck in on my live rock.
