I have bought 2 pistol shrimp in the last couple of days 1 is a tiger/pink spotted goby that came as a pair the other is (I think) a randellis pistol shrimp. My question is should I buy another goby to pair off with the randellis or am I asking for trouble are gobys territorial? Will it be more of a hastle if I were to purchase another goby?

Pairing your second pistol off should actually help the situation... (bearing in mind that no marine invert is truly predictable, and each situation is unique) A pistol usually becomes more of a home-oriented critter when he has a partner goby. He generally works diligently to make as complex and comfortable lodging as possible within his chosen region with a goby present, and prefers to roam at night when he's solitary. Again, no two situations are ever identical. Some pistols and/or gobies choose never to pair, and some pistols never settle for one spot permanently. Good luck!

Try to find a goby that's native to the region that your shrimp is from. It might not make a huge difference, but nature programs some of those behaviors to be triggered by certain cues and we don't know what exactly these creatures use to locate and accept each other.

what size tank are you keeping both of these in? if you dont have a big tank you are asking for trouble.

its a 40 I havnt seen the other pistol since the tiger pistol entered the tank think he killed him?

it's entirely possible. with the first species being a tiger pistol, you are at higher risk than with some of the smaller varities.

If you're trying to house multiples, look into the commensal-type synalpheus species. There are many types that have a wide variety of host organisms. Some are drab, some are wildly colored. Most are very stationary, restricting themselves to their host. You would have to give up on the tiger though...

i have 6 different type of gobies in my tank. and i have added 2 tiger pistal shrimp this week and with in 5 min. one pistal shrimp paired with my watchmen and one paired with my high-fin goby. Once the goby has a shrimp to worry about nothing else matters to them. they wont leave the shrimp so they dont really have time to fight. having 2 pistal shrimp and 2 goby cuts down all fighting!!lol

i recently bought a tiger pistol shrimp... and just got a black ray shrimp goby today... i built a live rock cave for the shrimp he seems to like it.. and suggestion on how to introduce them?

I was told if it is a watchmen they wil find eachother. Dont know what makes them go to each other buts its neet ow they do it.
